Program 746: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 34

Today, we wrap up Eusebius and why Constantine is so relevant to the promises made to Abraham and why this is all so relevant to us in a possible coming Kingdom era (of Revelation and Isaiah) where we are "priests" and "kings" and share the throne with Christ, that is, "priests" saved by faith and "kings" as citizen legislators, legislating in Wisdom, which is Christ, Himself, Proverbs 8 tells us as does John 1. Again, this is all based on Logos Christology, a commonplace understanding in the early church but almost completely lost to history in modernity. And finally, today, how Eusebius relates to the entire history of Western philosophy and to us today.

Program 745: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 33

Today more on the characteristics of a good king and why Christ explains the mysteries of existence, which the modern atheist often denies even exist, and why life after death is now a (Rational) knowledge (truth) claim after the Resurrection of Christ.

Program 744: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 32

Today how Eusebius' philosophy and theology answer almost all the questions and problems of modern philosophy and political science 1500 years before those problems even arise, and today much on the mystery of things resolved in Christ and on the reality of Godís Goodness and Wisdom.

Program 743: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 31

Today more on the reality of God, Good, and true Justice and the role of the state and good king for Eusebius in his oration on the 30th year of Constantineís reign. The righteous king is to reign in the Wisdom and Right Reason of God, and this is what is lost to modern man. The Wisdom of Solomon and the Logos of Greek philosophy in the good king or anyone is God. And the good king calls on God in prayer to fill him with such Wisdom and Reason. The American founders were very aware of this for having good government.

Program 742: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 30

Today more the interesting and important relationship between us and Eusebius and Constantine, in both religion and politics, as we look at Eusebius' oration on the anniversary of Constantineís 30th year of reign as Emperor in 336 AD, 11 years after Nicea.

Program 741: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 29

More today on Eusebiusí oration on the 30th anniversary of Constantine reign and why it is so profound and so relevant for us today, for both good government and fulfilled prophecy. Today, we see why Eusebius is considered by some to be second only to Origen before Augustine comes.

At 14:11 minutes I mean to say Durant, not Voltaire. Again, the oration of Eusebius on the 30 year anniversary of Constantine as Emperor is about 11 years after Nicea.

Program 740: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 28

Today, the righteous Judgment of God at the Final Judgment, and more on the relationship between personal salvation and good and righteous government and not tyranny, and how this all relates to Greek philosophy and even pagan literature.

And, today how Eusebius sees Constantine to be the fulfillment of the promises made to Abraham. This is unbelievably important for history and for us today, and again, Eusebius is off- the- charts. Also, to be clear, the 30 year anniversary of Constantine as Emperor is about 11 years after Nicea, and this is the date of Eusebius' oration.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 739: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 27

Today, why everything is on the line for us politically and religiously in a similar way that it was at Nicea, and why the situation had been radically different for Christians before Nicea as a persecuted minority in an openly pagan state, and this is all in the context of the promises made to Abraham to be the father of just and righteous Gentile nations and to be saved by faith, and in the context of larger knowledge truth claims about the nature of things and of God. Constantine (or whoever wrote his speech, I think Eusebius) is off-the-charts with his Greek philosophy, clearly, and, further, true religion is all a matter of heart; Constantine is correct once again.

Program 738: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 26

Today more on why the issues surrounding Nicea and Constantine are so important and relevant for us today. In my opinion Eusebius is off-the-charts with his analysis, and ultimately he may be the key to understanding everything in our own time dealing with Christianity, salvation, good government, the Bible, all history, and even Bible prophecy. It would be difficult to be better at what Eusebius does, than he is? Rarely equaled and never surpassed! And now re-discovered just in the nick of time for us today and for the story of all mankind on earth!

Program 737: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 25

Today more on the Council of Nicea, but before that The Life of Constantine by Eusebius and Constantineís slaying the Dragon, of Satan, in the realm of the spirit, and maybe even foreshadowing the end of our age, one could add. And finally the secret to real unity is Truth and Right Reason and not arbitrary compromise for unityís sake (could we have a more relevant point for today?).  Constantine and Eusebius understand this I think, though the 19th century editors of this book cannot see this in their seemingly never ending knocks on Constantine as a mere opportunist compromiser.

Program 736: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 24

Today more on Eusebius, Constantine and Nicea, and their relationships to larger philosophical, religious, and political questions, and why Constantine is no intellectual lightweight. And in many ways the question of Nicea is correctly understanding Jesus, specifically. Today, we look at the specific failures of Nicea, now all agree, and which even this modern Roman Catholic writer acknowledges, though he likes to use the word "Pope" for "Bishop" for some reason; Iím not sure why.   In any case, the orthodox position is definitely correct in its most important points, though its secondary points are not as dogmatically important, as a slight understatement. And, today, why "theology" and "creeds" are important, and really almost inevitable.

Program 735: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 23

Can we make knowledge claims about God, good, truth and right and even political rights or is it all just a matter of feelings and opinions? This is the larger philosophical question, but today we look specifically at doctrinal questions in the Council of Nicea and how much specific doctrine is truly sorted out by Nicea, which I am not sure we can say even today. If the idea of Christ as "mediator" is lost, the Church is going to get in big trouble with time, one must think, and it indeed does with time because Christ as personal mediator becomes lost for all intents and purposes with the orthodox Catholic position.

Program 733: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 21

Again, today I think Eusebiusí praise and understanding of the wisdom and virtue of Constantine is basically correct and certainly more correct than those who want to denounce Constantine wholesale as a political opportunist, rather, in fact, Eusebius sees Constantine trying to figure out what good government is from a Christian perspective (that is, in Wisdom) and in fulfillment of prophecy. Christ is Wisdom or Logos and is in the good or Christian king reigning. This is all about Proverbs and Revelation and Abraham and Constantine, big time, and, of course, the American founding.

Program 732: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 20

Today we see everything in antiquity and ultimately for us today is a matter of Justinís Logos Rationality, and in fact on the whole Constantine was not only a good guy so to speak but in fact quite remarkable in historical context. But the whole play of absolute monarch and absolute official Church in cahoots with each other is not ultimately going to play out well in history clearly as seen both in 1789 in France and 1917 in Russia. Still, the Christian faith triumphs well in antiquity because it is a superior religion and the Christians are far better off with the emperor being a Christian, and an apparently sincere one at that.

This video is, unfortunately, corrupted in encoding, but join us Friday, February, 3, 2012, when hopefully we will have all of these problems sorted out.

The American founders at the Constitutional Convention were remarkable as individuals no matter their gender, race, economic status or even possible physical disabilities, and they were not thinking in terms of group identity nor in terms of gender or ethnic identity nor in terms of helping those in need or the poor or the disabled, etc. Almost just the opposite. The goal was a strong but not tyrannical representative republic which would last in liberty and ensure rights for all, and though slavery was an evil not resolved by them they were in no position to end it. Their accomplishment is remarkable and unprecedented in history, and today we sit around and critique them like armchair quarterbacks who have never thrown a football because they did not solve all the ills of their society and even provide for the forgotten people of society and those truly in need, and even free the slaves etc. They were doing the best they could with what they had, and all in all it was truly outstanding, and in truth Constantineís accomplishments are also considered truly remarkable by many historians, especially in terms of the historical context in which they are taking place.

Program 731: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 19

At Nicea it is Constantine and Eusebius who do not want to make non-essentials into "dogma," but they do not prevail.  Nicea is attempting to keep the Church on track in sprit and truth, and in fact it does to a degree, but it also does not in a real sense. In short, Constantine and Eusebius are correct about getting non-essentials out of the creeds, and the warring factions were often wrong.

Program 730: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 18

Constantineís conversion clearly does present new problems of worldliness to the Church, but that is far outweighed by the fact that beginning with Constantine the question emerges of what is good government from a Christian perspective and not simply good religion. At 40:39 minutes the person who puts modern theory of "Christian" government together most completely is John Locke. (I forgot to say his name in the video.) And Locke is the instrumental philosophical figure for the founding of America.

Program 729: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 17

There are two types of corruptions which the Church (the Body of Christ) can face, namely, the corruption of the general society and culture, which can bring the Judgment of God on a nation, and then there is the corruption that takes place within the Church, and it is this second set of problems that the Council of Nicea sees itself as addressing as did the Reformation, while the Old Testament prophets address both sets of issues, as does Wesley, and both sets of problems can be seen as part of "the mystery of iniquity" as defined in Scripture, and to the point at hand, for Wesley worldly corruption of the Church is actually sealed by Constantine. There may be some truth to this, but it is basically false, in my opinion.

Program 728: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 16

Today more of the dynamics of Christianity in its early centuries and how this so relates to our day. Christianity is both history and theology, and in fact false philosophical systems and religions generally fail in relationship to Scripture as well as in relationship to Reason. The Christian position is the only Rationally consistent position as we see today before going on to look at Constantine and Eusebius and the Council of Nicea.

Today, how Christianity answers the philosophical "mysteries" of existence about God, mind and spirit, Good, morality, rights, life after death, etc. And also today how all the prophecies of the Bible can be explained from Abraham to Revelation where we are "kings" and "priests," and indeed this is done largely by Eusebius at the time of Constantine, and this will ultimately become the question of the relationship of government to religion in modern social political philosophy (and even economic theory). This is probably our most comprehensive Program ever.

Program 726: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 14

Today we try to wrap up all the themes of the last few Programs, and today why the best way to deconstruct the Old Testament, if one is so inclined, is actually to concede most of it as completely true, and the Israelites were simply falsely attributing to some supposed "God" what were clearly mostly naturalistic events, but in the end this system fails with Sinai and the Resurrection, but it is about the best shot at deconstructing the text one can plausibly make.

Also, today, back to the Pre-Socratics, Plato, Aristotle and to the fact that the mysteries of existence and of Good and of God are solved by the Christian God and Gospel and its knowledge truth claims about these matters, Rationally speaking, and proven by the Resurrection. Today we get down to doing some serious philosophy and theology, I think you could say. At 39:28 minutes I mean to say, the New Testament and not the Old Testament.

Program 724: On the The Early Church Fathers...

At 22:50 minutes the time of the Judges is greater than 50 to 100 years, my mistake, but not enough greater to separate it significantly from the Exodus and the conquering of Canaan. The dates for the Exodus vary from around 1446 BC to 1290 BC depending on the length of the time of the Judges and whether the years of the Judges overlap or are back to back. In reality this is not that big a deal because once one concedes this much of the text in order to start the debate, as the Liberal willingly does, the basic story line of the Hebrew people from Moses, and before, is pretty much established either way for all intents and purposes. I think we can say that as of today "higher criticism" is dead in the water, forever? Praise God, but it had to happen sooner or later, especially after it went postmodern as the Bible as all supposedly "metaphor" or secret code meanings, etc., if not wild conspiracy and forgery theories, etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Program 723: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 11

Plotinus in himself is irrelevant to us, but he holds the key to where Hegel and the "higher critic" as well as Tillich go wrong, and this is not at all irrelevant to us but of the utmost importance. So, much more today on systematically deconstructing "higher criticism," tough luck for the so-called "higher critic"?  (What goes around, comes around, in terms of being so-called "deconstructed"?)

Program 722: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 10

Today, Christianity truly explains the "mystery" of things, the very things the Pre-Socratics were seeking to explain as well as the Epicureans and Sophists and Socrates, Rationally speaking. And today more of the fatal problems of the "higher critic" time and time and time again.

Church Fathers/ Program 722  141kbps Broadband

The so-called "higher critic" simply cannot see the theological and moral consistencies of the text, and this is the source of all his problems he says himself, as did Origen some years ago now to get this all started! The poor, benighted "higher critic" simply cannot see the moral and theological consistencies to the text in the year 200 or the year 2000, sadly, truly sadly.

------------------------------------------------------

Program 721: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 9

Today, more on the fascinating relationship between Hegel and the "higher critic," and ultimately the question in philosophy or even theology is who really has knowledge claims (Rationally speaking), and who does not, and who is really just building empty metaphysical castles in the air?

Click on the links below for Program 721 of "The Story of The Great Books"

For the VIDEO in Broadband "High Speed" (cable, etc.)

Church Fathers/ Program 721  141kbps Broadband

The higher critic finds what he sees to be small gotcha moments in the text to collapse the whole thing, supposedly. Jesus uses the word "armies" or Moses "the far side of the Jordan" and the Bible is toast! Big time! Clearly! What could be more obvious says "higher criticism" scholarship?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 720: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 8

Today, we look at Hegel, who clearly sees there seems to be some sort of general Mind or Sprit in the nature of things to speak of and make a theory about, but in reality Hegelís Mind and Spirit do not seem really to hook up with anything, and they are not really very consistent with what we would take a traditional notion of God, as such, to be, and hence Hegelís theories, such that they are, even when self-consistent, tend to be empty metaphysical castles in the air.

Click on the links below for Program 720 of "The Story of The Great Books"

For the VIDEO in Broadband "High Speed" (cable, etc.)

Church Fathers/ Program 720  141kbps Broadband

And, today, why Hegel tends to give intellectual credibility to Biblical "higher criticism," at least in the mind of the "higher critic," because Hegel can explain the supposed theological disunity and evolution of the notion of God in the Bible text, which the higher critic thinks is there because he is not enlightened by the Sprit, say Paul and Origen.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 719: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 7

More today on Plotinus and Tillich and their similarities and differences and why Plotinus is superior to Tillich, who is primarily trying to give a Christian treatment to Sartre as the Liberation theology theologian is trying to give a Christian treatment to Marx. Regardless, if one has an amoral religious experience with no God who is really "there" then clearly there is no sin and salvation problem or reality.

At 29:34 minutes I mean to say a supposed Rational modern amoral atheism (not theism) is false, if it leads to the self-evident absurdity of Sartre and Rorty on the supposed similarity of Mother Teresa and Adolf Hitler, objectively and Rationally speaking.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Program 717: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 5

Defining and understanding a true, meaningful and Rationally workable notion of God is the key to doing good theology, just as Origen realized. The point here is irrational mystics, such as Plotinus and Tillich, are generally leaving the Logos Rationality game of the Greeks for mere spiritual experiences, as are Christian Gnostics (with an all spirit and no truth), but the essential truth of Christianity is called "dogma" in order to worship God truly and correctly in spirit and truth, but in the Middle Ages the idea of "dogma" comes to have an exact opposite meaning to its original meaning of essentials as in Origen, as we see today.

And, today, why there is precious little difference between the supposed "theist" Tillich and the outright atheist Sartre. And, also, today, a bit on my own personal story in these debates.

-----------------------------------------------------

Program 716: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 4

Today we continue with the question of what are Rational knowledge truth claims about the possible reality of God, as traditionally understood, and not as re-defined by Plotinus and Tillich without good Reason. The fact is the early Christians thought, correctly, that the coming of Christ along with his Resurrection explained the mysteries of human existence.

And, also today, one can do a reductio ad absurdum on the amoral atheist position showing it leads to self-evident absurdities, therefore, proving the truth of Rational moral theism once and for all in all history. I believe this argument is original with me because I have never heard it used anywhere else. (There are 4 or 5 skips in this video.)

The notion of God as "the One" tends to degenerate into a pantheism (of God as everything) says even the atheist Russell (not in the readings of this Program), who has no dog in this hunt, but most Neo-Platonists do not want to concede this point because they want to define "God" as Being or Is-ness itself without any positive attributes. Fine, but what is that? Nothing, as both the atheist Bertrand Russell and the Christian R. C. Sproul argue in dealing with Plotinus and similar figures, such as Tillich. The truth is too much of this stuff can drive any sane person crazy. So, if all of this stuff tends to give you a headache, that is a very good sign! It means you have not lost all common sense in dealing with a Rational, Biblical notion of God.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Program 714: On the The Early Church Fathers...

After Origen: Plotinus, Eusebius, Constantine, Nicea, & Knowledge, Part 2

After Origen the question for Western man and philosophy is Rational knowledge claims not simply about the Gospel and the Special Revelation of the Bible but about truth, good, and right in the nature of things more generally and even about God, and His true nature. So, more today on the false re-do it Christianity people and the donít do it atheist people as well as easily refuted false religions, and finally the more difficult alternative metaphysical philosophical systems of people like Plotinus, Hegel and Tillich. If you like technical philosophy, this is definitely the Program for you.

Note:  yin and yang refer to real complementary relationships which roughly speaking occur between like things with contrasting or balancing properties such as in people as male and female, or in food as sweet and sour pork, for example, where there may be a contrasting taste complement not a nutrition one. So, one can say in Godís mind complements (or yin and yang one could say) can be as it were real metaphysical relationships as created by God, but they are not real metaphysical properties that define the ultimate nature of things, the big Eastern mistake. Or hardness and softness can be seen as real properties and as complements in objects and in the realm of the mental and metaphysical. But there is no ultimate independent reality of yin-ness and yang-ness or hardness and softness. Further, and more important, good and evil are opposites not complements. It seems to me, as Origen is fond of saying, that Godís perfect love and perfect justice are neither opposites nor complements since He is both completely at the same time without contradiction? I thinking pondering Godís ultimate nature is too much for the human mind, actually. But philosophically the point is easy. To talk about God and his properties of real good and right etc., He has to really exist, He has to really be "there" (says Schaeffer says) or theology is meaningless metaphysical talk, as it is in Plotinusí and Tillichís so-called "theology."

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 50

Today, the "story" of Western philosophy is not simply a random set of books, and also today how Christianity in the larger sense relates to government, economics, and law and not just to Christian salvation. And, again, the issue for all positions whether Liberal, atheist, theist or Christian is who is really being Rational? At 16:13 minutes I mean to say, you might say excess profits are "not good," not "good" but they are best dealt with by competition generally speaking (yet again I leave out a crucial "not" as I am too prone to do).

Program 710: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 49

Origenís Against Celsus is something of the whole ball game for the story of Western civilization because as even the great atheist Bertrand Russell acknowledges, in the early third century, Origen is setting the stage and determining the presumed Rational knowledge truth-game story until basically the Renaissance, though Russell thinks this in error, it is the historical situation, regardless, for better or worse. This means, arguably, Origen stands as the heavyweight philosophical champion of all history, never defeated by the atheists and never really even challenged, even after the Renaissance, because in modernity the atheists basically ignore Origen and build their atheism on the sure foundation of modern science, the new philosophical kid on the block for the story of the West, but that is 1300 years off or so. At 24:28 minutes God, of course, shakes the mountain not Moses at Sinai

Back to the Against Celsus text today and various repeating themes in the text, such as Christianity appeals to women, children, and slaves, which is true of course because it lifts them up as equal in the eyes of God, such that this attack by Celsus reveals the actual positive not negative state of the Church in the early centuries. At 40:14 minutes I mean to say Origen, of course, and not Celsus.

Program 708: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 47

This Program is about how Against Celsus relates to larger philosophical questions based on Reason in the entire history of philosophy dealing with humanism all the way to the 18th century humanist Enlightenment and then to us today, and also today Russellís Why I am not a Christian somewhat at length. In the second half of the 20th century the atheists tend to give up on Reason rather than on their atheism when they cannot establish a truly Reasonable atheism after 200 plus years of effort, and this becomes what is called "postmodern" humanism or atheism.

Today, more on my methodology in doing this video series, and why some people see no real story to Western philosophy, whether theistic or atheistic. And, again, a possible story to Western philosophy centers around the question of who is being most Reasonable in order to make reasonable knowledge truth claims for and against a given position. And a good bit today on how these major theistic and atheistic themes play out in specific figures in all history to our day. At 43:09 minutes I mean to say "Why the Rationality of the faith is not true."

Is there a "story" to Western philosophy as many theists and even atheists (such as Bertrand Russell) think after the manner of Augustine, or is there not, and if so, what is it? Is there truly a narrative here in the history of Western philosophy? Indeed there is, and it is usually seen to be atheism versus theism, no matter which side one is on, and the question then becomes for almost 2500 years, which side is truly being Reasonable?

Okay, today, back big time from a one week "retirement" in the Bahamas (actually Florida) and now how all the themes of the last Program actually relate to us today in extremely important ways for the history of Western philosophy. Today more on why Against Celsus is relevant for us in our time.  At 18:57 minutes I mean Celsus not Origen of course. Actually Russellís History of Western Philosophy is alternatively labeled "A History" and "The History" in different publications, but one can make too much out of this as Origen may in fact do in attacking Celsus because if one thinks oneís history is correct then it is the history of Western philosophy. In any case, again today, how the anti-Christian position relates to antiquity and our times, since in both times the anti-Christian claims Christianity is just another Middle Eastern "mystery religion," that is, supposedly Rationally speaking, but it is not in reality, of course. So, what is "the" real story of Western philosophy becomes the question.

Program 704: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 43

The whole question in Origenís Against Celsus, and one relevant for us today, though not in exactly the same way, is, "Who is truly being Reasonable in asserting or denying the Christian faith?" And, today, also some of the differences and similarities between Celsus of antiquity and the problems atheists present in our time. And again, and again, after Justin in antiquity the question is, "Who is truly being "Rational" in the sense of Greek Logos philosophy?" And, then, this becomes how this all plays out in the story of all history as outlined by Augustine.

Origen actually develops in antiquity a common argument we see today, namely, people can or will give their lives and even die for something that is false, such as the possible Resurrection, but they will not die for something they know to be false, as the Apostles died for concerning the Resurrection. This argument has not been refuted nor even addressed to this very day to my knowledge. And, again, the end point to it all? Reasonable knowledge truth claims (basically correct essential doctrine), and this "knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth as waters cover the sea," just as it did the Roman Empire after Origen. Regardless, I do not see Celsus as being a heavyweight, though occasional he is, but he usually, in my opinion, is mostly what is called "calumny," which is easily dealt with intellectually speaking, and it is, of course, still very common today.

Against Celsus is something of a definitive anti-Christian position of antiquity and with some significant relevance for us today, especially in its name-calling characteristics. And Celsus also does the mistake of todayís Liberal fallacy, namely, all religions are supposedly worshipping the same God by different names. Also, todayís "higher critic" (also as Celsus) does not accept the Biblical Jesus, obviously, (the very point of the so-called higher critic's position, no less), but the higher critic does not slander his supposed historical Jesus as Celsus does, indeed quite the opposite usually. And, again today, the two ways of being in Galatians 5 and the Didache parallel the Stoics and Epicureans morally speaking, though with new Spiritual Life in Christ of course for the Christian not Stoic version of this, and these two modes of being humanism and theism or Christian theism become Augustineís two cities playing themselves out through history. Also true "self interest" is doing the morally right thing as we saw over and over in Solomon, Socrates, and Cicero as well as in Plato and Aristotle. In any case, the 2 cities of Augustine are seen in modernity in Locke (Christian theist) versus Hume (atheist) as well as in the American Revolution (Christian theist) versus in the French Revolution (atheist).

Today, before Against Celsus I first digress into De Principiis (On First Principles) one last time, simply because it is so important, and I am having a hard time moving on from the Rational knowledge claims given in De Principiis, and moving on from the key elements of Christianity for us today, namely, salvation, works of charity, and Logos Rationality for good government as seen in the Didache, Justin, Tertullian and finally Origen, and why these things are so important for us today in re-establishing orthodoxy against Liberalism.

Again, at 34:28 minutes, Christianity is often said to travel on two tracks, namely, evangelism and the cultural mandate, as seen in both the promises made to Abraham (in his being justified by faith and to be the father of many just and righteous nations), and this is also in Revelation where we are to become priests and kings. This means the Church in our time must return to a sin and salvation message in general, the very thing the Liberal rejects, and I think we need even to advance to a sinnerís prayer, covenant "I do" Christianity in order to have the final Evangelical Marriage Feast of the Lamb Christianity of the Kingdom Era, and we desperately need to be "kings," that is, active with morally responsible participation in the culture, society, law, politics, education, government, etc. I personally see the Tea Party to be something of an effort to return American politics, in particular, to such a moral responsibility in government and to get around "politics as usual" in both the Republican and Democrat Parties, but how successful it will be in such efforts, who is to say?

-----------------------------------------------------------

Program 698: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 37

Today we finish up De Principiis of Origen and Kingdom Era Christianity and the salvation and Rationality of it, and the 2 types of wisdom, and the nature of God as Creator, Just, Loving, and Good, and today how the "donít do it" and "re-do it" to Bible Christianity people are totally irrational morally and practically in both religion and government, and the question then becomes when will all forms of Christianity, both Protestant and Catholic, get on board and in line with a more Biblical Christianity? Also today a possible Judgment of God in our time, and next time, Origenís great work: Against Celsus.

Origen tends to be the solution to all of our orthodoxy problems but not problems more generally as Justinís Logos Christology Rationality or Wisdom tends to be for the good legislator to make good laws for the good of the body politic or commonwealth. Today, the totality (a rare thing in Christian circles) of the Christian message in Justinís Logos Christology, and Tertullianís salvation, and Origenís orthodoxy, and the Didacheís two modes of being with new Life in the Spirit and the Spirit in you. And, again, how all of this relates to Marriage Feast of the Lamb Christianity, and ultimately to the entire point of Christianity, the way of Life and Light versus the way of death and darkness (and deception), and also today the two types of wisdom, namely, of man and of God. One of our better Programs, no doubt? (I think we may be on a world-changing roll with these last few weeks of Programs. I don't even believe it myself. Again, Origen's De Principiis (On First Principles) is the definitive text against the "re-do it" people (to Bible Christianity) of antiquity and, in fact, of our time in modernity. And, again, the Church today is in the worst shape it has been since Origen, fairly obviously, and even Vatican II Roman Catholicism is generally just as confused as todayís apostate Protestant Christianity. In any case, Origen is giving us "the knowledge" in our intellectual understanding that " will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea" in the Kingdom Era, which I, personally, think is at hand, and then we can move beyond a "salvation only" Christianity, and have a Logos Christology for salvation and good government, and hence today a good bit on the Just state, and its relationship to Evangelical Christianity. Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 34

Today we tie together many of the themes of Christianity found in Origen, and how and why they are so relevant for us today, and also a crucial point is if there is no historicity to Judaism at Sinai and even to Abraham and certainly to the Resurrection, then most definitely Christianity is just another Mideastern mystery religion as the atheist and Liberal have held from day one in antiquity until this very day, and necessarily so, but this position has never been Rationally established by the atheist, Liberal, and so-called "higher critic," indeed quite the opposite, whether in antiquity or modernity.

And, today, also why the "love only" folks are not truly self- consistent to their own position when it comes to actually making social, political and economic policy. And, today, the unbelievably outstanding first prayer in Congress to show the purpose of the good legislator is to make good laws, and hence, they seek Godís help to do so, in Wisdom, as we also saw in this weekís Wednesday Update! Program 690: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 29

The concept of God in the " re-do it" person (to Bible Christianity) is, again, based on a failure to connect the dots and reality of a Creator God and a God of perfect Justice or Righteousness of Sinai and a God of perfect Love of the New Testament, who raised Christ from the dead and who is all Good. These dots or realities are basically the ball game, and the "re-do it" guy just cannot deal with it, while the "donít do it" atheist doesnít really care one way or another. And, again, Christianity and the Gospel explain the mysteries of mind, spirit, God, manís story on earth, and the ultimate nature of things. Again, today, Origen and the basic concepts of God and the Gospel, which are crucial to understand, such as there is a Creator God Who is perfectly Loving, Just, and Good, and Who is really Rational about things, and one could add for our time it is crucial to hold views about God, or atheism for that matter, that are compatible with science. For example, the universe created itself out of nothing is not Rational nor compatible with science, and the universe is infinite and self-existent is not Rational nor compatible with science, and DNA created itself out of dirt is not Rational nor compatible with any known or conceivable laws of science. It is all a matter of Rationality, that is, atheism versus theism.

Also, today, orthodoxy can degenerate into a mere intellectual assent, but without orthodoxy (as we are generally today) we donít have a chance. But if we get down a true sin-and-salvation, believe-and-receive Christianity, that will allow us to develop a full Christianity that also applies to the issues of good government with good and wise rules, regulations, and policies, etc. Origenís re-establishing (for us) a correct concept of God provides a launching pad for us today to do a Kingdom Era Christianity in our time. These Early Church Fathers are unsurpassed in what they do, and we need them desperately in our time if we are to have any hope for evangelizing the world in the foreseeable future. Faulty theological Liberalism can usually be spotted by asking one simple question: "Is sin a problem?" If so, we need a Savior, if not, we donít, and all is just one warm fuzzy amoral feeling.

The mainline Protestant denominations generally teach and preach (they themselves say) the Gnostic nonsense that "Jesus walked of the grave" really means "get in touch with the flow," and "Jesus died for our sins" really means "homosexuals are supposed to marry." What could be more obvious?  Outside of the SBC and Assembly of God I personally am unaware of a single major mainline Protestant denomination which is more often than not in such a sad state. A person is not born believing any of this baloney; rather in seminary (presumably to get a passing grade) one must learn the supposed secret spiritual meanings of the text (of "inclusion," "tolerance," etc.), that is, if the text does not mean what it plainly teaches (sin-and-salvation). One then deconstructs the text to get the supernatural, and even moral, out of it in order to find hidden "higher" spiritual truths, usually even mystical truths dealing with the supposed unspeakable "oneness" of everything. This or a variation on it has been a common theme of Christian and even non-Christian "mysticism" (and, hence, often Gnosticism) for millennia, says the atheist Bertrand Russell, correctly, as does the atheist Herman Hesse. The mainline denominations, including Roman Catholicism, are often up to their eyeballs in this stuff and proud of it, no less.* This is classic Laodicean church silliness. Implementing EE fixes all of this and kills 2 birds with one stone. Why? EE not only re-establishes correct doctrine (teaching, knowledge to cover the earth, etc.), but it also serves a larger purpose of actually getting people "saved" from the Judgment of God and actually getting God into peopleís hearts, indeed, new (born again) hearts. And, hence, the Laodicean church and all its baloney teachings will cease to exist with the implementation of an EE program. Christ stands at the door of the Laodicean church (that is, all the mainline denominations), and he knocks (Revelation 3:20-22), they, apparently, open the door, and Christ comes in with a fix-all-your-problems EE manual. This purifies the Church, and then they sup fellowship together as promised, the Marriage Feast of the Lamb, (Revelation 19:9), and then (Revelation 19:11-21) we together "conquer" the spiritual darkness (of the "donít do it" position) and the deception (of the false light "re-do it" position), and Jesus rides point (as "King of kings and Lord of lords," Revelation 19:16), perhaps even actually militarily at some point, and then the saints share the throne with Christ in Logos Rationality government on earth for a thousand years, also as promised (Revelation 3:20-22), and Satan is bound to deceive the nations no more (Revelation 20: 2-3), presumably, that is, with faulty political ideologies and deceptive religions. Allís well that ends well! Is this cool, or what? Yes, it is!  And the hour is clearly upon us, who would have ever guessed! Man your battle stations, whatever they may be in your particular place of service... Now is the time, this is the place... We will prevail I promise you, and we will meet again, if not in this life, in the next, I can assure you...  it is all written... pretty close, anyway?

*(footnote: Is it possible that such so-called " oceanic experiences" of "oneness" (or something similar) are a naturalistic experience of "God"? Yes, perhaps at times, but certainly not personal relationship or anywhere close, and in truth many naturalistic experiences of God developed as "mystic" notions of "God" such as the One or the All or the Flow or the Absolute, etc. are usually not very theistic even when people try to develop them in Christian terminology. Even the Polish Pope warns against such dangers, if not nonsense, though too little too late?)

Also, Calvary only makes sense if God is perfect Love as well as perfect Righteousness, again, the 3 dots of Genesis 1:1; Sinai, the God of perfect Justice; and the God of perfect Love and the Resurrection in The New Testament. You could almost say the rest of the Bible is just filler for these 3 historical events about God, (especially if you add in the promises made to Abraham). The corruption of Athens (the Special Revelation) is the humanist Protagoras and the no-truth Sophists, and the corruption of the Jerusalem (the Special Revelation) is the Herodians, Pharisees, and Sadducees (old themes on this website). Also it is really Origen who best develops the idea of essentials and non-essentials to the Christian faith, though that is not his specific terminology, but it is his basic idea, and Origen does it all in terms of Reasonable knowledge claims.

Program 685: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 24

Today, more of Origenís De Principiis, and is Christianity True and Reasonable? And again a "love only" Christianity misses the mark and is perhaps the ultimate deception, though obviously Christianity without a real Love is no Christianity at all.

Christianity gives Reasonable knowledge claims about the mysteries of life, and the early Church was highly aware of this, as were the early detractors of Christianity. But the "donít do it" (that is, Bible Christianity) and the "re-do it" folks do not work out Rationally as their positions play out through history to our very day. And their attendant concepts of government are always not ultimately Rational with real rights and freedoms. I personally think there is no more important truth or insight to understanding the nature and reality of God than connecting the dots of the Creator God of Genesis 1:1 (Who is all- knowing, all- powerful, and ever- present) with the God of perfect Justice (of Sinai) and the God of perfect Love (of the New Testament). And in fact these are the very dots the Liberal says he cannot connect or "see" both in antiquity and in our day. Again, in my opinion, Origen is the very best at what he does, namely, systematic theology. What a pleasure to read and contemplate the writings of this dear saint.

------------------------------------------------------

Program 684: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 23

Christian Liberalism is just not very intellectually credible, but of course the so-called "higher critic" thinks he is smarter than everyone else in supposedly finding the true hidden meaning of the text, etc. Regardless, for our purposes, a true Bible Christianity must develop a concept of Good and Just government, which is not emphasized in the New Testament (outside of Revelation) because it is not a particular problem of that day. (At 15:17 minutes I mean Origen, of course, not Justin.)

True and false religion or true and false Christianity both develop concepts of government. However, faulty concepts of Christianity tend to have very faulty concepts of government (as we see with todayís theological Liberals). True Christianity has Logos-based, good, practical, and moral concepts of government. This is not developed in the history of the Church (to my knowledge) until Eusebius, who develops these concepts almost definitively for mankind on earth, and in terms of the promises made to Abraham, no less. Why? Because Eusebius is a very insightful guy and a very gifted person who realizes, as few others do, that there is a lot more going on with Constantine than meets the eye, but at the rate these videos are going we may never get to Eusebius! In any case, God is perfect Love, perfect Justice, and perfect Goodness, and if you take any of these attributes away from God, your concept of God is faulty and actually somewhat blasphemous, but do not let that deter the blind and naked Liberal who thinks he is such hot stuff (Revelation 3:17).  Is Origen the greatest theologian who has ever lived? I would say probably, objectively speaking, and in my personal opinion...  without question.

------------------------------------------------------

Program 683: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 22

Today how a clear Kingdom Christianity is found in Origen. And one more time: Origen thinks the Bible is giving us Reasoned knowledge claims that one can "see" if the eyes of oneís heart are not blinded (by darkness), or, I would add, deceived (by false light).  At 3:52 min. the video skips on the point that the claim to fame for the modern atheist and the Liberal so-called "higher critic" was Reason, supposedly, and once they both abandon Reason in the latter part of the 20th century their positions lose their reason for being, and that is where we are in all history right now.

Also, again, today the key point on the Kingdom Era is that "the knowledge of the Lord (as in our intellects or minds) will cover the earth as waters cover the sea," and "each shall know the Lord (in internal  heart real spiritual experience) from the least to the greatest." Again the 2 senses of the word "know," to know the facts in our mind and to know as be acquainted with in our hearts.  And, also, today the whole package of Christianity for a Kingdom Christianity in religion and government because Christianity is Reasonable, True, and Good. (Note: Liberalism usually does a false Gospel as unity, tolerance or oneness or inclusion but sometimes they do it as a "love" as license without truth, much as the old Beatles song "Love is all you need." Over and over throughout history the Liberal has a God of "love" but not Justice of Sinai and, hence, no sin problem and, hence, no need of salvation, hence ultimately a false God of "love or tolerance only" etc. Origen is famous for dealing with the theology of all of this. It certainly plagues us today, as probably the major problem in all mainline denominations. Liberalism is clearly a false light or Satan as an angel of Light)

-----------------------------------------------------

Program 682: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 21

Christianity is an "I do" covenant offer, we either say "yes" to it or we donít. Not complicated. And today how this fits into the history of Christianity and philosophy, and how all of this relates to a Kingdom Christianity or what I like to call a Marriage Feast of the Lamb Christianity.

At 34:30 the Third Reich was supposed to be some third monarchy system of the German people not the third government after the governments of Bismarck and the Weimar Republic, but, regardless, some commentators connect it with a false spiritual 1000 year kingdom notion, as part of the Nazis cosmology of the supposed super race, etc. In actually the Nazis were very spiritually religious if you study their nutty teachings, and they are a clear 20th century mystery religion and cosmology.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 681: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 20

The mysteries of existence are explained by the Gospel, and not by false mystery religions of the Mideast. God gives us biological and spiritual life, Reason, and the grace of the Spirit in salvation. And, further, almost no other religion except perhaps Islam is even claiming to be worshipping the God of the Bible and the Creator of the universe. One of our better Programs no doubt, in its summary overview nature, anyway.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 680: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 19

Get this program down and you can almost forget everything else (at least on this topic)? God has only revealed some things to those who love Him; however much can be known by "common sense" if you haven't lost it. (And as the Didache (The Teachings of the Apostles) says: Thank you, God, for coming to live in our hearts; this is a central reality for the early church.)

Origen, as the early church generally, correctly understands the mysteries of God and of existence and of the whole Creation are being given to us by the Gospel (just as the Didache has said in earlier Programs). The point of theology is a Rational analysis of the nature of God as given by Scripture. Not complicated? It is all about the true nature of the Spirit of God, of true holiness, and of new spiritual life in Christ (new wine) in the New Covenant, and there is no other way to get it... And the cosmic humanistís and Liberalís getting into the supposed "flow" of existence is generally metaphysical spiritual nonsense.

------------------------------------------------------

Program 679: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 18

Today, perhaps our most relevant Program ever, if not important ever, with more on the holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, stated in the Bible as Origen correctly describes Him, and the Spirit is not some going with the flow or some force of amoral love that supposedly permeates the universe, as the mainline denominations so often teach today...

The key here is the Spirit in us and us in the Spirit, and this comes at Pentecost and the Kingdom come with power for the Christian, and this is all new for the condition of mankind on earth, and it is not some higher consciousness of the ultimate spiritual nature of things as the ancient Gnostic and todayís Liberal and Ecumenicalist hold, or one winds up in the nonsense of a contemporary mainline Christianity as seen in a truly ridiculous theology that we see today as supposedly representative of mainline Protestantism of our time, and often even of Vatican II Roman Catholicism. So, today, why higher criticism Christian Liberalism is irrational, and it is generally developed as getting into some supposed divine "flow" of the cosmic humanist. Todayís Christians simply have to mature, "grow up," so to speak, or we will never move into a Kingdom Era Marriage Feast of the Lamb Christianity.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 678: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 17

Today, more on the holy Spirit in Origenís De Principiis (On First Principles) and how He has come at Pentecost in a special way for mankind on earth in order to live in our hearts as saved and born-again believers, and this relates to our time and to the false spirituality of spiritual or cosmic humanism as seen in Humanist Manifesto III as well as in "higher criticism" Christian Liberalism.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 677: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 16

Today the reality of Good in God and how mystery, Truth, knowledge claims, and Reason interconnect in the text of De Principiis (On First Principles) and how Origen is the best there is in doing this stuff, in my opinion.

And, today, we move on from Christ to the Holy Spirit in understanding the Trinity correctly in order to be able to worship God correctly and in reality in Spirit and Truth, and how this relates to us today and the end of the age and the Kingdom Era, and the big question of who is being Reasonable? The Bible Christian, the donít do it folks, or the re-do it people?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 676: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 15

Today more on how Origen relates to us today and to the history of philosophy and how the Natural and Special Revelations interface in systematic theology.

And, also, today how once the teachers of the teachers or, that is, the textbook writers buy into an irrational higher criticism in Christianity and Judaism, and an irrational Epicureanism for undergrad studies, and an irrational legal positivism of no higher moral law in the law schools, we are toast, and we are now just teaching so-called "politically correct" consensus nonsense. And, today, Humanist Manifesto III and its new spiritual cosmic humanism and its soft-tyranny, collectivist, egalitarian state. (Please.)

----------------------------------------------------------

Program 675: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 14

Are you going to commit to knowledge claims based on Reason, or no? And even commit to Reason in relationship to Scripture or, that is, what God has said in Special Revelation? These are the basic questions...

"Knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth as waters cover the sea" is knowledge in the sense of intellect. "Each shall know the Lord from the least to the greatest" is "know" in the sense of acquainted with in our heart experience. These are two senses of the word "know," and Origen is developing knowledge claims in the first sense (in the mind) for Western civilization in the Christian cosmology from the Creation to the fall of Satan from heaven and the fall of man and the Redemption of man and the ultimate Final Judgment. The see and understand and know or experience God in your heart is an equal part of his theology, but that is the heart aspect of knowing as opposed to the mind or intellect aspect of the knowledge as Reasoned knowledge claims or assertions. (One of our better Programs no doubt.)

--------------------------------------------------------

Program 674: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 13

In a sense from the atheist and Liberal point of view, Origen is the source of all mankindís problems on earth for the last 1800 years for heart and mind, soul and spirit, intellect and knowledge, and Justice and Good and Love and God and Truth, and how these all interconnect, because it is Origenís Rational knowledge Truth claims that must be overturned if mankind is to go into a new age of humanism and Liberalism on earth, but when humanism and Liberalism cannot make their positions work based on Reason (their original goal in the 18th century) they bail out on Reason in the second half of the 20th century and not on atheism and Liberalism, which would have been the consistent thing to do.

The Christian is not figuratively but literally (in the realm of the spirit) of the Mind of Christ... In this program I scroll thru the Bible looking at the word "mind" to see clearly how it is used in Scripture. At 35:15 minutes I mean to say in the 18th century the atheist is marching forward with a rational amoral (not moral) materialist atheism, that ultimately fails Rationally in the next 150 years, and he has an amorality that degenerates into Hitler and Stalin, and Humanist Manifesto II wants to fix these problems, it says itself.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 673: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 12

Today, I break out my Thomas Jefferson mug out of total frustration. We are seeking real Truth, Right, and Good, all identified and associated with God, of course. We are searching for Rational knowledge truth claims about a real Good, Truth and Right, or we go with the opposite: humanist legal positivism and Epicureanism (the exact opposite of Jefferson), or we go with the Liberalís ridiculous re-do it Christianity with its new Gospel and new Jesus of love or unity and tolerance only, and in which case we ask, what part of the Bible text to underline as true and inspired?! Ridiculous and outrageous, but this is the sole activity of the higher critic Liberal!

Re-doing the Bible text is not Rational, and this is, in essence, Origenís point. However, the Liberal higher critic "sees" himself as the height of intellectual scholarship, which he is if you accept his presupposition that the true intellectual exercise is to chose what to underline as supposedly true and valid. This is not Rational just as choosing which theory of legal positivism to go with is not Rational and not whether legal positivism itself is valid. The whole assumption of what to underline as valid in the Bible is utterly, totally and completely ridiculous, at least or especially on the essentials, and the non-essentials hardly matter, so what difference does it make? We are here playing the Rational knowledge truth game.

---------------------------------------------------------

Program 672: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 11

Origen is getting the essentials of Christianity correct, and this question of essentials is what Origen calls "dogma" though that term will take on all sorts of other meanings and connotations in the following years, to say the least, but it is the re-doing of the essentials that De Principiis is concerned with as its main subject line. "Another Jesus" and "another Gospel" and "another spirit" is probably the biggest problem Christianity faces ultimately, and certainly the central issue of our time...

What can you know by Reason and what can you know by what God has said directly? If you want to say you do not care about Reason or Scripture, then it is whatever anyone "feels" is true is true without Rational argument, and this is, of course, the postmodern position, but it is no longer playing the Rational knowledge truth game of Athens or Jerusalem, no less. Origen is applying Rationality to Scripture and hence doing systematic theology. And why did Christ come? To seek and save those who are lost and to give new abundant spiritual life in Him, which we get by accepting Him as Lord and Savior in Christian salvation. All basic stuff here, and false religions as well as atheism are not Rational, Moral, or True. Such is life. It is Christianity, and Christianity alone that has Rational knowledge truth claims, and both atheism or humanism as well as Liberalism have not been able to establish themselves by Rationality over the last 200 years and increasingly have despaired of Reason, their supposed very reason for being initially. About all the humanists of Humanist Manifesto II can agree upon is sexual indulgence and "a citizen of a world community" consciousness, whatever that might be. How wonderful and profound, these guys are!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 671: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 10

Christianity is a reasoned knowledge claim as much as a faith claim given the manifestations of God in history at Sinai and the bodily Resurrection, both of which verify the text (and cannot rationally be denied), and they, therefore, explain the mysteries of human existence on earth. Not complicated? Can we have rational knowledge claims about God, the Good, the True, etc.? Yes or no, that is the question...

Language, discernment, and knowledge claims, that is the issue (says Origen correctly), and either one can "see" some of this stuff or one cannot, etc. A bad heart causes a faulty discerner (so to speak) in order to be able to make rational knowledge, based on what one can "see" and "not see." In any case, Origen wins the day in antiquity and for the next 1500 years and even the atheist Bertrand Russell sees that correctly, though Russell incorrectly thinks the rise of modern science renders Origenís arguments irrelevant. This is flatly false or, more precisely, clearly wrong as Russell tends to be when he gets things wrong. Further, Russell buys into all 3 major fallacies of the 18th century humanist, namely, values are not facts because they are material facts, the Christian faith is not based on Reason, and the supernatural is impossible even if there is a God of Genesis 1:1. All 3 are clearly false, and eventually modern humanism of Hume (which becomes a logical empiricism or so-called logical positivism of Russell in the 20th century) collapses into postmodern humanism and hedonism of one sort or another in the second half of the 20th century.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 670: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 9

We are, arguably, in the darkest hour in the history of the Church since Origen, and re-discovering Origen may fix most if not all of our current problems, you might even say more generally re-establish human knowledge on earth. The mystery of Rational Moral Theism is explained in Christ as well as life after death and the whole of the Christian cosmology from the Creation to the Final Judgment as well as Godís nature. All of these are explained "mysteries" we are "stewards" of says Paul.

Also, today, Humanist Manifesto II is not nearly the document that Humanist Manifesto I was.  Much modern humanism centers on the impossibility of the supernatural if there is no God of Genesis 1:1, but so what? That is a completely circular argument. (We are still working on our "dark" video problem, hopefully we will have it fixed next week.)

--------------------------------------------------------

Program 669: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 8

Origen is purifying the faith of his day (he says, in effect) for those who have come into the church to "re-do it" (as we say here) in a way different than the Apostles and Church tradition since the Apostles, and he is purifying it in a way that is directly relevant for our day for the Liberals, who once again have another Gospel and another Jesus and another spirit, hence, "spirit and truth" is the key to getting things right, which ultimately becomes the Spirit and Truth (of God).

This is all about the essentials of the Faith, and we also do the Son subject to the Father (as in 1 Cor. 11:3), and we are also in terrible moral decline in the society generally. If things were not so bad in the Church and society I would be worried (that the Bible might not be prophetically accurate). So, again, all the "mysteries" of God and the Creation are explained in Christ or, that is, in effect, in the New Testament. And, today, how the "donít do it" people play out in our time in Humanist Manifestos I & II. The more things change, the more they remain the same?

----------------------------------------------------------

Program 668: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 7

Theology deals with the mysteries of existence and rational knowledge claims about God and the creation and Godís overall plan for man in the creation, and this is one reason why the non-believer sees Christianity to be just one more Egyptian mystery religion, no more valid a story than any of the other of those religions supposedly revealing the ultimate truth of things in mythological stories. This was the view of the non-believer of antiquity, and the view was revived again in modernity by the atheist. (Obviously we are still having trouble with the lighting in these videos, apparently, but in truth it is somewhere in the equipment or computer programs, and our very large and very well-paid staff of computer technicians is currently working day and night to fix the problem.)

What is truly interesting is early Christians of the first century and following in the Didache thanked God for 3 things, specifically. 1.) God and His coming to live in our hearts, 2.) for giving us faith, and 3.) for giving us knowledge. But "knowledge" about what? The mysteries of existence, and of God, and of Good, and of Truth, and of Right, and of spirit, heart. and mind generally, and the mysteries of the ends and purposes of God have now all been revealed to us in all of this whole story of Christianity and according to Godís own good pleasure. This is not just another fanciful tale from Egypt, it is actually true, but the non-believer cannot "see" that with bad "eyes" of the heart.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Program 667: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 6

Today we look at classic questions and issues in Origen, such as the Son is subject to the Father, a view clearly taught in Scripture, I would say, and Origen realizes big time the reality of spirit and mind that we cannot see physically but which cannot be denied, until the modern materialist humanist attempts to do so, anyway, in the 18th century as a central point of his atheism or humanism, and its supposedly being based on Reason and science. Also, we participate in the Rationality and Goodness of God, but God also is these things! So much going on here...

And again, Origen develops a Natural Revelation (of Athens, in effect) and Special Revelation (of Jerusalem, in effect) without stating it so explicitly. The key here is Origen is concerned with asserting knowledge claims using both Natural and Special Revelation about what heretofore had been unknowable mysteries. Language> discernment> knowledge does indeed seem to be the process by which we come to have knowledge of things for those who love God and who have the enlightening holy Spirit. And, again, we see how this all relates to our day and a possible Kingdom Era which has true worship of God in spirit and truth in "religion" where we function as "priests," and we act in good and righteous government for the nations, where we function as "kings." Not much more to it than that? We each know the Lord in our heart experientially from the least to the greatest, and intellectual knowledge about God in our minds will cover the earth as waters cover the sea as a condition of mankindís knowledge on earth, and Origen is, of course, in effect giving us how both of these things of heart and mind work in the realm of the spirit... the greatest slugger of all time. (I, personally, can hardly believe his words are on the page, too heavy. Seriously.)

-------------------------------------------------------

Program 666: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 5

Today, in Origen, the mystery of mind and soul, or what we today call the mind-body problem, and then on to the nature of Christ, the Wisdom of God and the perfect reflection of the Father, and what does it mean to "see" God with the eyes of our heart in the realm of the spirit.

The experience of God in our hearts is huge for the early church from the Didache through Augustine and will ultimately be championed again by Wesley with his experimental or experiential Christianity, and this relates to "seeing" and "hearing" and understanding in the realm of the spirit by means of a "pure heart." "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God," and today Christ is not just an inanimate Logos, but a conscious Being, of massive philosophical importance of the highest order. Clearly many "mysteries" are being explained in Christ.  This is Program 666! What does that mean? Absolutely nothing as best I can tell, but maybe something, who can know these things, as Constantine would say...

------------------------------------------------------------

Program 665: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 4

In our doing Origen, what is the question we ask over and over? It is, "What stands between us and the Kingdom of God on earth?" What stands not in the sense of an obstacle (of one sort or another) but getting Origen down in our understanding him, that is, our getting down the true Christian thing in spirit and truth is all that is stopping us bringing in the Kingdom, quite literally, in our lifetimes. Origen is the first systematic Christian theologian of all history, and he, specifically, is getting it all down for Christianity in spirit and truth, the central and crucial theme upon which all else hangs, I think, and Origen agrees. Today, we see how this all fits together and why it is so relevant for our time...

------------------------------------------------------

Program 664: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 3

Let all the world be silent and sit quietly at the feet of the great Origen? "But he is just another saint as we are!" Yes, that is true, but he is so much better at it than we are so that we should perhaps defer in respect to our older non-Apostolic brother on these matters because we are mere neophytes, and he is not, my good friend, clearly; he is unequaled and unsurpassed in the last 1800 years, so a dose of humility may be in order for any contemporary Liberal know-it-all? Origen again today (as usual) hits the heights of Christianity and human knowledge, and this is clearly extremely relevant for today, for what can be posited as a knowledge claim and cannot be? This is the big question of modernity, is it not? Origen today does the entire Christian cosmology brilliantly and Rationally and as good if not better than anyone who will follow him.

At 23:57 minutes We are judged at the end according to our deeds (at the two judgment seats, etc.), but this does not negate salvation, as such, because deeds show or do not show the reality of our salvation or faith as James clearly teaches, though the reality of salvation generally will be lost by Roman Catholicism with time in future history. At 38:15 min the issue in worshipping of God is worshipping in spirit and truth. This was also our central theme in our own New Testament videos and many afterward.

--------------------------------------------------

Program 663: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 2

Today, a question, "What stands between us and the literal Kingdom of God on earth?" I would say simply getting Origen down, under our belts, etc. In my opinion, clearly Christianity is in its darkest hour since Origen, who originally puts the Christian Faith together in true or orthodox theology. Whether there have been greater Christian philosophical writers and theologians after him is somewhat secondary. I do not think so personally, but that is not the issue at hand. Rather, orthodoxy on the essentials in truth and spirit is the issue of our time, as it was in his, and not, say, simply justification by faith or something similar. So, we look, today, at Origen as another key to a Kingdom Christianity in our time with his orthodoxy and philosophical theology, just as we looked at Justin as a key to the Kingdom in our time with his Logos Christology, and then we start De Principiis (often translated First Principles). Wow, watch out, a master at work! The opening paragraphs could have been written yesterday by a saint to solve the problems of our day and the Christianity of our time.

For Origen in doing systematic theology we have the Natural Revelation by Reason, and the Special Revelation by Scripture, and we have things we just cannot know by either. Though not using this exact terminology, this is correct in my opinion, and it is how Origen approaches the issue, and it will be standard fare for centuries to come. We touch on many interrelated topics today, desire (will) and ability (wisdom) to Just government brought by a new heart and the indwelling holy Spirit of God as well as receiving a clarified common sense and a sanctified conscience and the ability to do and understand the concept of Right Reason, and how atheism and alternative spiritualities will not bear up to Rational analysis, and, again, Origen develops most of this in terms of human knowledge on earth by Right Reason (Natural Revelation), by Scripture and Reasoning correctly about what God has said (Special Revelation), and then there will be some things we just cannot understand or get our minds around by either of these. This is a new 3 threesome for us in this video series, courtesy of Origen, probably the Greatest Theologian ever.

----------------------------------------------------

Program 662: On the The Early Church Fathers...

Worshipping God in Spirit & Truth: Origenís Theology & Argument, Reality & Rationality, Part 1

Is this really our best and most important Program ever? Quite possibly, I would say. Today, why Origen is so important in history, and why he is so important for us, probably essential to be re-discovered in our time if the Church (both mainline Protestant and Roman Catholic) is ever to re-discover the historical faith, as originally so foundationally established by Origen. Rather than doing Origen and saying why he is important, I am going to say why he is important and then do his writings.

(At 6:52 the philosophical view of "no real moral values" may in fact be self-condemning on further consideration, but it is not as self-condemning as the radical overtly depraved postmodern view that there is no real rational, objective and real moral difference between Mother Teresa and Adolf Hitler. Paul develops this idea of self-condemning in Titus 3:11 when someone will not give up a clearly nutty or depraved idea.)
