Program 572: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 33

Today we wrap up this miniseries on Revelation and more recently on Revelation in relationship to the Psalms, and indeed we wrap up, today, our entire look at the entire New Testament... (What a wonderful experience and honor this whole New Testament thing has been for your humble host over these many months... now over...)

This is not just what it means to be a Christian in worshipping God correctly in spirit and truth, but also what will be the state of the nations on earth in the Kingdom Era. The fact is prophecy more than anything else deals with Godís sovereignty in the story of man on earth and indeed in the whole cosmological story from the Creation to the fall of Satan from heaven and then the fall of man, and then it becomes God's story with Abraham and the Hebrew people, and then it moves to the redemption of man in Christ, and then it eventually culminates in a 1000 year Kingdom Era ending with the Final Judgment and a new heaven and a new earth; all not complicated, and something of a package deal story.

Program 570: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 31

Today, how Joel parallels both Revelation and Isaiah, but Joel says prepare for war and battle and not for peace, presumably or possibly this is both spiritually and physically. And, also today, a general summary of Isaiah in numerous Kingdom Era prophecies, and the reign of Davidís descendant, etc. in justice and righteousness, etc...

Program 569: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 30

Today, it is all a matter of worshipping God correctly in spirit and truth, and having the state under a transcendent justice or law of God, both for Isaiah and for the American founders. Very simple really, and the spiritual Liberal and atheist have neither correct. In many ways this Program ties together the previous 568 Programs, believe it or not.

Program 567: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 28

We end Daniel today. I love Daniel and his prophecies, and he is one of the most faithful servants of God who ever lived, perhaps the most faithful. In the end, I am, in fact, a "Daniel guy," so to speak, but, still, I do the book of Daniel in terms of Revelation rather than Revelation in terms of Daniel for all the reasons given.

I read at length the insightful amillennialist idea of the Church "Kingdom" age coming with Christ, followed by a new heaven and a new earth, without the nations of this world ever coming under the Lordship of Christ in an actual Kingdom Era. This mistake of the Calvinist is self-evident. It is clearly wrong (I think) to limit the Kingdom Era to the Church Age. In any case, the nature of God and the truth of the Christian cosmology always tend to re-emerge as the central issue in doing philosophy, theology, and prophecy. And for human action in particular (individually or politically) the Christian asks (says C. S. Lewis correctly), "Is it (the action, law, etc.) moral and is it practical (or, that is, reasonable)?" You will note these are the two main questions of Solomon, Socrates, and Cicero (as well Plato and Aristotle) But not so for the spiritually deceived person as the Epicurean, the Sophist, the Liberal or other humanist, atheist ideologue. What does this have to do with Revelation? We are talking "Kingdom Christianity," are we not? And this is primarily salvation of souls and the (so-called) cultural mandate for all the nations. Very simple. In short, throughout all history nations tend to have virtually demonic religious systems as well as no transcendent justice political system, often with the absolute Kingís word as Law, no less, or the stateís or judgeís ruling, decree, etc. So, when, "republics" and not "monarchies" they are humanisically republican. At 23:02 minutes I mean to say "Satan" not "Job" had to ask Godís permission to attack Job, etc.

Program 566: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 27

Today, some of the controversial stuff in Daniel and how Daniel appears to give the actual timeline to a coming Christ to die for our sins as well as the destruction of the re-built Temple. Amazing, and, indeed, there does appear to be one week of years of the 70 weeks left, that is one final seven years, to still play itself out (whether continuously or not) in the 10 toes and/ or ten horns, etc. There tend to be 4 views on this. Definitely true, probably true, probably not true, definitely not true. I tend to be with the Premillennialist on this; this 70 weeks of years with one week left to play itself out certainly appears to be the case. So, I tend to fall in the "probably true" category on this one. However, the clear dated predictions of the coming of the Messiah to take away sins, from the time of the decree to rebuild Jerusalem, its wall, the Temple, etc., which will all be destroyed as here also prophesied, are so powerful that they silence the Liberal on Divine inspiration of the Bible once and for all, in my opinion.

In any case, if the specific 70 weeks of years is not the case, my faith in salvation and in just and righteous nations, etc. is not destroyed nor particularly shaken, though if there is a time of tribulation, war and transition into a Kingdom Era, it could quite possibly be a mere 7 years (or two 3 1/2 years). The Nazis came and went with the whole of World War II in a mere 12 years. However, not to throw a monkey wrench into all of this, but there are only three large major military powers today, namely, the U.S., China, and Russia, and to me they do not at this time seem to fit into any of prophetic scenarios very easily, just as a practical matter, though a great Tribulation could change things dramatically, presumably. Further, while the EU is about as atheist as one can get, it is certainly not outright "totalitarian," and, further, the EU can hardly do basic social services without going bankrupt, let alone make major world war, of all things, which they have no desire to do anyway. Even further, there is always the looming question of how Islam could fit into all of this. They, in fact, do have a desire for war and world conquest, they say anyway, but they have very limited means to carry it out. Islam definitely tends toward a totalitarianism of sorts (without question), but they are not really atheistic as such, though certainly a false religion! They are killing for Allah (they say) but who exactly is Allah? (The moon god?) The Nazis were not really exactly atheists either, but for most practical purposes they were. So, how officially "atheist" does the final Leviathan beast have to be? I donít know, and donít really care. Further secularism has pretty well devoured or destroyed Roman Catholicism (if not Bible Christianity) and most other religions in the realm of the spirit (without bullets), at least as a practical matter in Roman Catholic as well as Protestant and other countries around the world, but so what? For all these and various other reasons I stay away from trying to predict particular events and nations and groups in them in terms of Danielís prophecies, let alone do I attempt to set specific dates, of all things, which we are told (by Jesus) not to do, even if we think Scripture is divinely inspired and true.

----------------------------------------------------------

Program 565: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 26

To be clear, it appears on the surface, there may be massive physical destruction of atheistic states and even false religion; having said that, the ultimate point is mainly spiritual for the eventual Kingdom realities on earth, both religiously and politically. In any case, today, back to Daniel and the kingís dream of the image with the head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, and legs of iron, and feet partly of iron and partly of clay as well as Danielís own similar vision in terms of "beasts," and not this particular image of a man. Danielís beasts are also the same kingdoms of Babylon (lion with eagleís wings), Medo-Persia (bear), Greece (leopard with 4 wings, and even four heads) and Rome (like no other beast, which the Liberal cannot explain, even if the text is false) and then 10 horns (as 10 toes, etc.)...

Though Protestants and Catholics both agree on the Apostlesí Creed as a general statement, this was not the debate of the Reformation, or you might say the Christian cosmology was not in dispute. So, in the mid 18th century there were two big options on the table, namely, Protestant Bible Christianity or Roman Catholicism, with a small but emerging atheism as well as an emerging spiritual Liberalism in Unitarianism outside the Church, not in it. But by the mid-19th century, Protestant Bible Christianity and Roman Catholicism have agreed to disagree and have gone their separate ways, and by the end of the 19th century there are three main players on the philosophical, worldview scene that will be with us to this very day: Christian Liberalism, atheism, and Bible Christianity. It was into this trio that Vatican II jumped to "update" Roman Catholicism and make it more relevant for modern man, etc. In my view unsuccessfully, but they made a pretty good shot at it, though wound up going more ecumenical Liberal than Bible Christianity. In any case, who is to say how all of Roman Catholicismís apologies for many of their sins of the past centuries sit with the holy Father? Besides which, in our day it is possible that the massive sex scandal in the Roman Catholic Church may be the last straw for Him, but who is to say really on something like that? If it is, it is; if it isnít, it isnít. How this may fit into the book of Revelation is, potentially, not pleasant to think about?

---------------------------------------------------------

Program 564: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 25

Today, why there may be no physical Battle of Armageddon or destruction of mystery Babylon. One of our better Programs I would say.

Wesleyís idea of a gradual spread of the Gospel throughout the world without any physical warfare or destruction of the Leviathan beast or the whore of Babylon might be true, but events since the 18th century pretty much undermine this interpretation of Scripture, though I am not prepared to throw it out altogether. However, the fact is I personally (but many others as well) have shown (in spiritual warfare) that Liberal Christianity and atheism let alone false religions outright are not rational, true or desirable, and their best arguments do not work, and only a Bible Christianity is true and rational. So, technically, if there were no spiritual blindness or deception everyone in the entire world would be this very day a Bible Christian, but we all know this is not the case yet. This "battle" you will note, this "casting down every argument that would exalt itself against a knowledge of the Lord," is not really a matter simply of intellect but mostly of spiritual "seeing," and it is certainly not primarily a physical warfare. So, it is not totally unreasonable to read Revelation and the battle of Armageddon and destruction of Babylon and mystery Babylon as completely in the realm of the spirit, especially if you are living at the height of the "Philadelphia" church, in, say, the late 18th century (as Wesley was), but in the early 21st century Armageddon appears much more to be a World War II type battle while the destruction (by the bad guys, not the saints) of a literal mystery Babylon is quite possibly an actual place of false Christianity, if not false religion more generally, followed by a literal Armageddon, physically speaking. Still, the ultimate importance even of physical battles would be spiritual, a point most literalist people miss. Still, doing the possible physical math on this one is not a pretty thing to think about, though heaven is said, no less, to rejoice in the victories, whatever they may entail. "We win" quite literally, so to speak, and heaven rejoices, understandably, in Christ's final victories to set up the worldwide Kingdom when "the nations of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ."  (Pretty cool, when you stop and think about it?)

---------------------------------------------------------------

Program 563: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 24

If "the kingdoms (or nations) of this world have become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ," the major point of Revelation, as a practical matter and by definition, false religion, generally, and centrally off track Christianity must cease to exist as well as Leviathan beast, atheistic totalitarian states, and we may need to go through some significant Judgment of God and even some historical time of intense wars if not some last specific physical final battle to get there. In the end the whole story and point of it all? The Gospel is the religion that reigns worldwide, and we have worldwide peace, and the nations are founded on justice and righteousness, or "the Laws of Nature and of Natureís God." Not too complicated? In any case, today a bit more summary before a look at the relationship of Revelation to The Old Testament in Ezekiel and Daniel...

Ezekiel is a book I have shied away from, but in truth it seems to parallel Revelation in ways that few if any have pointed out. In Ezekiel 36 and 37 Israel is restored and blossoms (as today) and then dry bones of open graves and a new Spirit in people (seems in part to parallel the first resurrection of Revelation) and then a Davidic millennial kingdom (exactly as in Revelation) followed by the specific battle of Gog and Magog (exactly, by name, as in Revelation), and then a new Temple, not a New Jerusalem, in any case very similar. Further, Gog and Magog, which could be Russia as some hold, but we in fact have little or no Scriptural basis for this possibility many Bible scholars say. And it becomes clear that while such speculations can be fun and fascinating, they are hardly the meat of the matter in my opinion, and this is why I have mostly avoided this sort of thing. Still, Daniel has truly amazing prophecy... (At 14:53 minutes I mean to say, of course, "the moon turns to blood red" not the earth.)

Program 562: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 23

Today, we finish Revelation and in something of a conclusion I try to give the story of Revelation in terms of the actual history of mankind on earth for the last 300 years or so...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 561: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 22

Today, the battle of Armageddon as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"

In truth, Wesleyís view, that this "battle" is all in the realm of the spirit with a slow spread and triumph of the Gospel throughout the world, could be true technically, that is, no literal, physical battle of Armageddon, but that does not seem to be the case, by most readings of the text and as world history has actually played since Wesleyís day with the rise of modern totalitarian states, and accompanying physical battles of real armies on a worldwide scale. Bottom-line: False religion is Babylon as "mystery Babylon" or "the whore of Babylon," and the final Beast is the flat atheistic state and its political ideology, and this state is apparently totally secular, and it removes false religions to establish itself as "God," and in fact this phenomenon is very common in our day and for the last 100 years, but virtually unknown in pagan antiquity, and until modern times?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 560: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 21

We have seen so far that in the end when whatever historical dust settles, which is to settle, that "the nations of this world will become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ," (in essence, the nations will be in Godís Justice and Righteousness, without Leviathan "beast" secular, totalitarian states) and with no false religions nor significantly corrupted Christianity will still be standing, or, by definition, one cannot have a Kingdom Era. In any case, today, I compare Revelation and Genesis, as many have done in one way or another, actually.

Also, it is not at all clear to me, personally, that Roman Catholicism will come to a Bible (believe and receive, "Philadelphia") faith before the end of the age, (as the Protestants might well do), and if they do not change or repent then not good, especially given their horrible persecution of Christians over centuries past (as many have pointed out). The wrinkle here is clear in Scofieldís analysis in that "the whore of mystery Babylon" may not be all false religions, but only false Christianity, though it could be all false religions generally, which the secularist Beast of the humanist state "destroys," literally. One, in my opinion, can never quite be sure what the domain of the subject is when the Bible says "all." In any event, if there is indeed a Kingdom Era, false religions outright will presumably cease to exist or fade away fairly quickly over time. Bottom-line? As is well known, after the stormy Reformation many Protestants have held for centuries that "the (religious) whore of Babylon" is probably Roman Catholicism and the destroyed city is a literal Rome. Obviously without serious repentance that could possibly easily be the case in some scenarios, no doubt, but necessarily, at this time, is another matter, I would say.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 559: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 20

Again, Liberal Protestant Christianity (which is somewhat demonic, in my opinion, and definitely humanistic) will change or be destroyed, apparently, but I think both Great Britain and America in their Christian and spiritual Liberalism will repent. Roman Catholicism (which is also definitely humanistic of a different Pharisee type) will also change or be destroyed, apparently, and, to make matters worse, Roman Catholicism has now gone overtly ecumenical to all religions, the very thing one is not supposed to do as a Christian, and the thing that so marks Vatican II...  (In actuality Liberal Protestantism, as such, Church of England or otherwise, is not conceivably "drunk on the blood of the martyrs" historically, so this would seem clearly to rule out any Liberal Protestant Church as even the possible "whore of Babylon"?)

---------------------------------------------------------

Program 558: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 19

Today, I try to center on the underlying philosophical significance of the story in Revelation.

------------------------------------------------------------

Program 557: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 18

Today, I give again what I see to be significance of all of this in all history and what God is up to, so to speak, more than particular interpretations of particular symbols. As interesting as particular interpretation can be, this is not, just generally, what we are doing here with Revelation. (Rather, here we are doing the clear, broad brush strokes, philosophically, as they could play out in all history.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 556: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 17

The mystery of the beast and the woman in Chapter 17:7 in Revelation and following.

What is the fate of Liberal Protestant Christianity in all this? I think they come back to the Bible. What is the fate of Roman Catholicism in all this? I think they may come back to the Bible, or they may not. If not, they will be Judged (that is, condemned) presumably and not simply Chastened; time will tell no doubt if all of this goes down. False religion and/ or false Christianity is going to be destroyed spiritually and perhaps even physically the text says, not by God, but by the atheist beast Leviathan state because it, quite simply, does not like sharing power and glory. God is not going to destroy false religion or possibly false Christianity that has persecuted the saints but rather turn the atheist beast loose on it, in effect. Without question Revelation tends to make the destruction of false religion total. I guess the question then becomes how total is total, and how physical and how spiritual?

-----------------------------------------------------------

Program 555: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 16

Today, a bit of a pause and putting things in perspective in terms of all history and the text of Revelation.

Again, when (and if) these things come, they could be pretty straightforward, and be in a relatively brief time, and create a profound transition into a Kingdom Era of just and righteous nations in the realm of the political and the Gospel in the realm religion. Again, there is a God and righteousness is the issue, and once these two things are seen, then the Gospel follows fairly easily. And also a big point here is the Great Tribulation is said not to fall on the "Philadelphia" church. (We may see some church growth here?) At 34:58 minutes the marriage feast of the Lamb (in Revelation 19) actually seems to precede the battle of Armageddon, if there is to be an actual physical Armageddon and not simply a victory of the saints in the realm of the spirit, as some postmillennialists have held at times with a gradual spread of the Gospel filling the world. I do not mean to hedge here, but the Communist Soviet Union, as an ideological atheist totalitarian state, was defeated without an actual physical battle.

----------------------------------------------------------

Program 554: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 15

Today, chapters 15 and 16 of Revelation and the 7 bowls that are poured out. The two big points here, today, are with Godís possible chastening of America and what it could bring to pass and settle once and for all, and the 2 points are: 1.) Is there really a God?  And 2.) Is righteousness really "the issue" with God? Once these two things are established by a possible Chastisement of God, we will repent and turn and accept the Gospel, in my opinion, pretty easily in fact.

Again, the Liberal Protestant Christianity is not necessarily the false prophet and whore of Babylon. In short the Great Tribulation might prove to be not a Judgment but a Chastening of Liberal Protestant Christianity, but "the whore of Babylon," false religion is going to be Judged and destroyed, outright (in the text anyway). Judgment of God is generally held to be for destruction, while chastisement is for correction. A big difference if you think about it though on the surface they seem and even appear very similar. (And in Jobís case, what befell him was neither, more of a testing, in fact.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 553: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 14

Today, back to the text of Revelation and chapters 12 thru 14:

Liberalism is a false spirituality (no doubt), but (to be clear) it may not be (as this plays out) the particular false spirituality that teams up with the atheist Leviathan state, though it could be. In fact, the Liberal Protestant Church may come back to Bible faith in the Great Tribulation (or it may not). And, perhaps, Roman Catholicism will come back to a Bible Christianity in the Great Tribulation, or it maybe not; or maybe there could be yet another new ecumenical religious movement that emerges that is "semi" Christian, as it were, but a false spirituality regardless. (I personally do not see how something like Islam could fit into any of this, but perhaps it could.) In any case, this is basically the undisputed meaning of the text by virtually all commentators, namely, a false religion teams up with an atheist state, and the atheist state turns on the false religion for sole power, but how it may specifically play it out (in our time or any other) is what is in question or up for grabs, so to speak. (At 17:55 minutes I, of course, mean to say chapter 12 verse 1 not chapter 1 verse 1, with the woman as Israel.)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Program 552: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 13

Today, the Christian cosmology, the book of Revelation, and the story of man on earth, the Christian Bible religion, as well as political theories of justice and the actual occurrence of the just state based on "the Laws of Nature and of Natureís God"...  all in terms of the very practical possibilities of all of this. The point is when (and if) these things of Revelation come to pass, they could happen fairly easily and in a straightforward and very understandable way

"The nations of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ." This is not utopian, although I (personally) would have believed it utterly impossible if America had not happened, but America did happen. A Great Awakening to the truth and reality of the Gospel (and the desirability and rationality of it) was followed by 1776 based on "the Laws of Nature and of Natureís God."  It happened once, it can happen again, even on a worldwide scale, especially as all false religions fall away. What is wonderful and Providential about all of this is the Liberal, the atheist, and the Christian agree completely! Namely, it is all about Americaís founding political vision and their version of the Christian religion, as either both good for today, or not. This is the disagreement, of course, whether these two things (of political and religious vision) are good or not (for then and now), but everybody agrees these two things are the issue. Also, Sodom and Gomorrah had no abortion (be it good or bad), just sexual sin, primarily homosexual as well as "idleness," and "fullness of bread," a type of materialism and hedonism more generally, though both Isaiah and Jeremiah speak of the shedding of "innocent blood" (abortion?) with no "righteousness" and "no justice in their ways" as a cause for Judgment.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 551: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 12

Okay, we move on today to Chapters 12, 13, and 14 in Revelation as the introduction to the storyís second telling in terms of the 7 bowls (or vials in some translations) in Chapters 15 and 16. Please note: the saints overcome spiritually by "the blood of the Lamb and word of their testimony," but some still get martyred. Still, the church of Philadelphia is spared the Great Tribulation, generally speaking (Revelation 3:10).

Also, the woman is the church primarily, in my opinion, but it could also include Israel, since Israel is the woman who gave birth to Christ in the first place. Others hold the woman in our time is primarily Israel and simply includes the Church as the rest of her offspring "who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." (This debate gets tiresome if not ridiculous at times?) It is not worth arguing over since both views tend to hold that this "woman" is not just Christians, but the Jewish people, even potentially Israel, as well. At 36:05 minutes (big misspeak!) it is the power of Satan not Christ, of course, that is broken by Christ at the Cross. Also, some Revelation references are to the fall of Satanís power at the Crucifixion, and some are to his fall from heaven in his original rebellion there. In fact, there is a fall of Satan from heaven in his original rebellion as well as a fall from his power over the saints by the Crucifixion, and there is also his particular coming to the earth in full force in the last hours when his time is short, etc. A lot going on here. Finally, "the beast," in my opinion, is primarily the end-time humanist/atheist totalitarian state (not a person), a state with which we are so familiar in recent generations but actually somewhat rare if not actually non-existent in previous times where great empires had their own false gods, and were not outright atheist, as such.  (All no more complicated than this basic outline?)

-------------------------------------------------------

Program 550: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 11

Revelation is the sovereign story of God through all history, primarily or specifically from the time of Christ with the Apostles to the new heaven and new earth, with the 1000 year triumph before then of Good, Right, and True for all the nations. That is, at some point false spiritualities and false political ideologies will no longer prevail, as they have since the beginning of time for mankind on earth. This is the ultimate issue of spiritual darkness and deception overcome, darkness and deception to which mankind has been so subject from the beginning, and this is the point of the story and prophecy of Revelation. Simple enough?

---------------------------------------------------------

Program 549: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 10

Today, the Kingdom of God on earth! In the seventh trumpet of the seven seal in Revelation 11:15.

I, personally, believe in a literal 3 1/2 years of events and trials and tribulations and 3 1/2 more years, and then it is over, and the Kingdom is set up. But it is unclear to me why most if not all people who hold to a literal 7 year fulfillment of Revelation hold that the 2 three and a half year periods have to be contiguous. In any case, I do not think one absolutely must buy into these actual numbered days as such, just as the Bible commentary says today, and I agree. At 25:26 minutes I should be more clear that Liberal Christianity is not the only false religion, rather any religion that is not Bible Christianity is false, with Liberal Christianity being just one form. At 39:03 minutes we are not 1990 years after Johnís vision, but about 1915 years after Johnís vision in 95 AD, assuming that is the date of the Revelation, which the overwhelming majority of Bible scholars do, and assuming the end of the age is now or roughly now.  (At 39:07 minutes I do not see why the 24 Elders could not be persons of old from earth and not angels, but who is to say about such things?)

------------------------------------------------------

Program 548: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 9

Today, a bit of a summary to keep all these things in the larger context of the whole story of mankind on earth. The Gospel is the only reasonable, true, and desirable religious and philosophical worldview system, and with the Gospel comes "justice" or the so-called "Higher Law" for nations (of the American Founders), and this "Justice" (of the Natural Moral Law or God) then becomes the end-game for mankind on earth as it will unfold in practical, philosophical terms, both religiously and politically in humanism (atheism) as well as Liberalism.. We are trying to keep this all very practical in easily understandable terms in a very straightforward way apart from the heavy imagery of Revelation and its Judgments.

------------------------------------------------------

Program 547: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 8

Today, Revelation chapters 6 to 9, and the opening of the 7 seals that will eventually lead to the final seven trumpets, of the seventh seal, when "the kingdoms (or nations) of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ.". And, today, some demons are released from the pit (the fifth trumpet of the seventh seal) to torment non-believers in Revelation chapter 9. But, the sum of the matter, and indeed the sum of the whole of the book of Revelation can be stated in 2 words... "We win."  (So, letís keep things in perspective, please!)

Program 546: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 7

The Kingdom of God on earth? Piece of cake, more or less? But as the American founders generally thought the only way to get to a rational moral theism for the state is by way of "religion" (even specifically the Gospel). Washingtonís point in his Farewell Address.

Politics by mere interest groups is Saint Augustineís definition of the City of Man and that is politics not under "the Laws of Nature and of Natureís God," which is the City (or State) of God. But, in any case, humanism/ atheism do not believe in "justice" that is their whole point, and similarly in a slightly different manner the same is true for the Liberal. ( I mean to say "on earth from God" as the Program ends of course at 41:59 minutes.)

Program 545: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 6

Today, chapters 4 and 5 of Revelation and the opening scene in heaven...heavy duty stuff here...

Now, today, the big overview of Revelation and of the Christian cosmology before we start, and all told on one hand in Adam (little finger) to Abraham (ring finger) to Christ (middle finger) to the end of the Church Age (first finger) to the end of the Kingdom Era (thumb), and also 3 or 4 major ways this cosmology and the text tends to be read: 1.) It is all false (the Liberal view), 2.) A-millennialism or no Kingdom Era at all, only a new heaven and new earth at the end of the Church Age when the dead and alive meet Christ in the air (the Rapture) in new incorruptible bodies at that time, and then the Final Judgment 3.) Pre-millennialism with the Rapture and incorruptible bodies etc. before the Kingdom Era, which also ends with a new heaven and new earth and the Final Judgment. And 4. ) Post-millennialism with the Rapture and incorruptible bodies, etc., after the Kingdom Era, which, again, ends with a new heavens and new earth and the Final Judgment. My personal view is the 4th is the only way to make the whole text work.

-----------------------------------------------

Program 544: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 5

Today, how the seven letters to the seven churches tend to reflect the different ages and states of the Church through history. This is all a very uncanny prophetic parallel of what actually happened in all history that for me (as for many others) is much more than mere coincidence. (This is starting to get very heavy, possibly almost bone-chilling heavy.)

---------------------------------------------------------

Program 543: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 4

Today, we get down to it in practical reality, and more of the first chapters of Revelation on the believers as "kings and priests" (very important) and then on to the seven letters to the seven churches of Asia Minor in Johnís day.

Though I have several misstatements in this video that I try to correct as I go, quite possibly this is the most important video Program we have ever done or ever will do on (and because of) the "kings and priests" thing? Why? Because it is now the "kings" thing that is on the table in possible actual reality to come in all history, not really so previously in any significant sense in the entire New Testament, no?

-----------------------------------------------------

Program 542: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 3

It is all a matter of seeing the truth of the Gospel and its ultimate fulfillment in the nations of this world in justice and righteousness in a Kingdom Era, and the desirability and even rationality of all of this.

To start matters, John is, presumably, no younger than 85 in 95 AD, but it is possible that he was as young as 20 when called by Jesus, and most figure certainly 25 is not at all unreasonable, which would make him about 90 around 95 AD. Nothing weird, unreasonable or supernatural going on here.  And, also today, the 7 aspects or spirits of the holy Spirit of God, a fascinating topic to be sure, though something of a digression.

---------------------------------------------------

Program 541: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 2

The same themes play out from Genesis and Abraham (who is about justification by faith, and just and righteous nations, the cultural mandate, etc.) to the book of Isaiah and the Kingdom Era of justice and righteous by the seed of David to the book of Revelation and its themes of both justification by faith, and just and righteous nations. This is all very clear upon analysis, and true to the "Laws of Nature and of Natureís God" and to the promises made to Abraham, David, Isaiah, and now to John and the Church in Revelation....

Further, we must understand the Gospel is true but not just give "intellectual assent" to it (that it is true) but rather give yourselves to it in reality as James has told us to do... And all of this is true of the Gospel, itself, and of the nations which are to be in history the kingdoms of this world which become "the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ," and ultimately there is a Final Judgment and a new heavens and a new earth, at the end of that 1000 years of the Kingdom Era. (On the closing comments to this video, as I read the Bible, Jesus says there will be no child birth, in the next life in pain or otherwise, though such pain is said to be the result of "the fall" in this life. My mistake.)

-------------------------------------------------

Program 540: Revelation in The New Testament

The Revelation of Jesus by John on the cosmological story of mankind on earth in all history... Part 1

Okay, to start Revelation, two points are to be made by starting at the end! That is, there are 2 "ends" in the book of the Revelation, namely, the end of the Church Age, when "the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ," and the end of that (said-to-be 1000 year) Kingdom Age or Era when there is both the Final Judgment and a new heavens and a new earth. Very simple, nothing complicated yet, almost all agree this is what the text is saying, and where this is all going...

In short, there is the end of the Kingdom Age at which time there is the Final Judgment and a new heaven and new earth in both Revelation and Isaiah, and in Revelation at this time Satan is permanently bound after having been released briefly toward the end of the Kingdom Era. (At 40:17 minutes I should say Romans 8 not 9.)

In Programs 537-539 we looked at the notion of "spiritual gifts" for the New Testament believer

as well as at "natural talents," and how all of this relates to the idea of the "Body Model"

for the church and even  for the state, without which we have no hope for true Justice, say Paul

and Cicero, and even Socrates, no less, so, that is, for us both in the Just State and the Body of Christ

Program 539: The New Testament

Natural talents & spiritual gifts in the "body model" for the New Testament believer, Part 3

Today, real, objective rights from God and the higher moral law. We are all grown-ups, and it is time we stopped playing spiritual, moral, and political games of children or of total nonsense upon rational analysis? Again, rational moral theism is the issue, and it is time to start thinking straight and rationally and not irrationally and foolishly as the Liberal and ideological atheist do, both of whom think they have it all figured out spiritually and politically (and even legally), but they are in total foolishness and nonsense though they cannot see it, try as they might, again, all in terms of philosophical theories of modern man in all history and especially in modern history, whether politically or spiritually (or ultimately even legally, culturally, educationally, and so forth)...

And finally, today, the great First Corinthians 13 on truth and love and on the 3 great Christian virtues of faith, hope, and love, and on how we are to pursue love and spiritual gifts, the two last commands for us here in terms of our study of commandments and exhortations for the individual with his or her particular talents and gifts in the Body of Christ and then to end it all before moving on to the book of the Revelation, the letter of Jude...One of the shortest and most interesting and enlightening books of the New Testament and the entire Bible... the whole story of the whole cosmology (yet again)... and the story of Godís redemption and victory over Satan and his demonic host in rebellion against God... and all in terms of Godís goodness, righteousness, and truth and ultimate Judgment... And whatever you do donít be a rebel as Korah or even murmurer (I would say) as the Israelites so often were following Moses (constantly complaining and driving God to displeasure and Moses bananas?). In any case, the end times are going to be rough according to Jude almost any way you figure it whether philosophically, spiritually, morally or otherwise with rebellion, license and foolishly depraved God-mockers, etc., etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Program 538: The New Testament

Natural talents & spiritual gifts in the "body model" for the New Testament believer, Part 2

Today, the philosophical body model for the church in particular with unity in diversity, and equality without sameness. The "body model" is key to understanding everything for desirable group, social, political community interaction, and if you cannot see it, you will miss everything and never be able to come up with a desirable and workable model and will usually fall into the false dilemma of radical utopian (and even totalitarian) egalitarianism or radical asocial amoral individualism.

Today perhaps our most important Program ever, or ever will be... The philosophical and political, and how the two undesirable extremes (of radical egalitarianism and individualism) relate to the Good for the state and to the moral for the individual where the false dilemma, there, is hedonism or total asceticism. Some might even say you could throw out all previous Programs on Solomon, Socrates, and Cicero and even the New Testament, and just keep this one on how the Church is supposed to work (for the justified (or saved), born-again. believe-and-receive believer), and even how the body politic is supposed to work for the state with interacting moral citizens. Every now and then, a Program for the Archives, what can I say? We are working toward the book of the Revelation and how all these things are seen to work themselves out in all history in actuality in all history in Christ for all individuals as well as for all the nations. (Watch this video as many times as it takes to fully understand it, the next 1000 years on earth at least in tolerable conditions, let alone just and righteous ones, may well may depend upon it?)

------------------------------------------------------------

Program 537: The New Testament

Natural talents & spiritual gifts in the "body model" for the New Testament believer

Today the question of "natural talents," which we all have, as opposed to "spiritual gifts," which all born-again believers have. However, I start today with the question of whether one can fall away permanently from the faith. We had to discuss this thorny issue sooner or later... Obviously people can and do fall away all the time, but if the "falling away" is permanent, and they do not come back to the faith, were they truly saved in the first place? John, as we have previously seen, thinks "no," however other passages in the Bible are not nearly so clear on this matter as in these last verses in James.

The crucial point today is natural talents and spiritual gifts in the body politic and in the church body. If we get this down we will do fine, I think, if not we will be stuck with a false dilemma and two undesirable extremes of a radical virtually asocial individualism and a radical egalitarianism or collectivism where equality means sameness, usually state imposed, etc. Also why Adam Smithís individualism for "the wealth of the nation" tends to work only with moral and harmonious interaction as so-called "self-interest." Milton Friedman, as brilliant as he was, could not see this (in my opinion), and certainly David Hume (a contemporary of Smith) could not either, but Hume was not only amoral (as Friedman) but outright anti-moral.

Program 534: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 19

We continue again today with walking in new life in the Spirit as seen in the ending exhortations, urgings, commandments, admonishments, etc. in so many New Testament letters and here in almost the entire letter of James, and we focus today on seeking wisdom both in our personal lives and corporate political lives.

--------------------------------------------------------

Program 531: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 16

We do today a bit more on the relationship between salvation and the cultural mandate and how this relates to "the Laws of Nature and Natureís God," and even the famous Philippians 4:8, and then on to Colossians, at last. And First Thessalonians.

Program 530: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 15

One last Program on the complexities and controversies surrounding prayer and "spiritual warfare" and false ideologies as well as false religions and even getting way off track in spirit and truth even within the Christian faith, itself, let alone the deliverance of people caught up in outright false demonic religions, deceptions, and nutty political ideologies. We all need prayer! No doubt about it often in both personal hang up deliverance as well as larger demonic philosophical and religious deception.

As a serious Christian, I, personally, as a good number of others try to spend some time a day on "deliverance" prayer matters for all sorts of people and groups, whether religions, political ideologies, or nations, but as most people I often just do not always have the time to do it! Bottom-line: How all this (false ideologies, religions, deceptions, etc.) relates exactly to possible literal demons, no one really knows. Certainly one can be wrong about something presumably without a demon, or we can be in the old nature, and act like demons, etc., and we are supposed to be praying for each other regardless, demons or no demons, and even if there are demonic issues in most cases God takes care of that aspect of things presumably as part of oneís more general prayer. My own view is demons are real, and we want to be delivered from the them or "the Evil One" (as Jesus says) obviously and "for the Kingdom to come on earth," but we, in fact, probably do not have to worry about the whole dynamic of the demonic, although some Christians are convinced we do, and that they have it, and in some cases perhaps they do. In any case, my view on prayer and "spiritual warfare" (at 26:10 minutes and following) is that of Wurmbrand (of the Voice of the Martyrs), namely, we can (and should) pray for whole nations (and cities, etc.), that they, or those people in them, would come to see the will of God, namely, that none should perish but all would come to repentance and a knowledge of the truth of the Gospel, and we can also so pray for religious and worldview groups (be they true or false) that those in them will know the will, power and presence of God in their lives. False religions, worldviews, and ideologies are often presumably somehow demonic, outright (whether in or out of the Church or Judaism) but, again, presumably God will take care of the demonic "binding" thing in his Providence, as a part of the answer to the prayer for that particular spiritual group or nation group. Keep It Simple, Stupid? That is, unless you are convinced that you must be more complicated and specific, then be more complicated and specific (about demons or whatever), otherwise just pray as the Spirit leads you, for people and larger groups, nations, religions, faulty ideologues, etc... And Paul in this Ephesians passage has already told us to pray for all the saints, so that is then everyone in the whole world, if you include both those in and out of the Faith.

----------------------------------------------------------

Program 529: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 14

Today a bit more on prayer and false ideologies and religions and deceptions, almost all of which I personally hold to be Satanís strategies (literally), and strategies that we pray to be delivered from, and in the end this is the condition for the Kingdom to come on earth, we and all people says Jesus in the Lordís prayer will be so delivered... "Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven... deliver us from the Evil One," who will "deceive the nations no more" says Revelation, which we hope to look at in the next few weeks after this current video miniseries on Commands and Exhortations to new spiritual life in the Spirit, personally, for the individual.

Though we, no doubt, have a certain spiritual authority in the name of Christ, at 20:30 minutes the degree to which we can specifically order demons off the planet as some hold I think is getting into the realm of the questionable, I agree with Trask and Goodall in The Battle: Defeating the Enemies of Your Soul. However, without question (I would say) Scripture tells us to pray that we are to be delivered from the Evil One as a condition of people groups and the planet, and somehow this indeed does create a "binding" provisionally and ultimately absolutely when the Kingdom comes on earth, presumably. My personal opinion is praying for the Kingdom to come and for people to know the will of God (and perhaps even to be delivered from the Evil One in certain cases or as in the Lordís prayer) is probably sufficient "binding and loosing" to get the job done, though the limits and dynamic on this are debatable. For example, what happened to the very real polytheistic religions of pagan Greek and Roman antiquity? They are gone. And presumably all false religions throughout the whole world will simply fade away (as not credible nor desirable) with time as well, just as they did in pagan Western antiquity with the rise of the Gospel. But this time in all history there will be no internal (demonic) corruption of the Church from within as happened before, the first time around (and as happened even within ancient Judaism) with what Jesus called the corruption of the Pharisees, Sadducees or Herodians.

-------------------------------------------------------

Program 528: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 13

Today, I digress a bit from the whole armor of God in Ephesians to be able to "stand against the wiles of the devil" to the larger and sometimes controversial question of spiritual warfare more generally in the heavenlies, and again today, ultimately, faulty political thinking as well as religious thinking is often a spiritual deception or blindness (and how this may or can relate to actual "demons" we really do not know).

If the political Liberal says that it is "self-evident" to him that the state can and should do everything for everyone potentially, there is nothing one can say back to him or her except you are a fool, man, and you are seeing things, and what you think you are seeing is not true or rational, and not even possible, and certainly not "rights" in any traditional sense of the word. And this is all dangerously politically corrupting if it is being espoused by a political party or administration, and not just some given individual somewhere, etc. It is a false dilemma to say "the state can and should do everything" or "the state can and should do nothing." Neither of these is correct, and both of these are deceptions, and perhaps even lies of the devil outright. In any case, the Liberal or collectivist can see the folly of the radical individualist, and the radical individualist can see the folly of the Liberal or collectivist, but neither can see the folly of his own position, but the Christian can see the folly of both with his well regulated harmonious interaction of the parts of the body model of the state of Paul and Cicero.

Program 527: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 12

Today, probably our best Program ever on the relationship between spiritual or Christian Liberalism and political Liberalism as well as on "doctrines of demons" and demonic deception in truly nutty Liberal political and religious thinking. Also, we need to be "prayer warriors" that the Spirit of God will energize and empower the saints as well as reveal the (obvious) truth and desirability of the Gospel to lost souls.

Again, today, the relationship between Liberal Christianity (no God of Genesis 1:1, no Atonement, no bodily Resurrection, no salvation, etc.) and the outright ridiculous political Liberalism of FDRís 2nd Bill of Rights. Also, today, my basic question to determine if you are a spiritual Liberal, namely, "Is sin a problem?" The Liberal generally says "no," and he or she needs no Savior or Atonement to make him or her right with an all-righteous God. The moral Conservative generally says "yes," and we do need a Savior and Atonement to make us right with an all-righteous God.  In any case, what is true, real, reasonable, good, and right spiritually let alone politically, and what is a self-evident political and economic "right"?  I mean really?  Liberalism (in both its spiritual and political forms) is certainly a deception and presumably demonic because it is so ridiculous, and it is not true, it is not desirable, it is not rational, and it is definitely not "self-evident" of all things. Our best and most important Program ever (for the actual Kingdom of God on earth) and our best Program on these subjects that probably ever will be...  In my opinion, the implications of this Program, if true, for the future of this country cannot be calculated?  Itís a gift, what can I say...  And, we will need the will and wisdom for good government and regulation to make things work, and we will probably only get there by way of the Gospel in our lives personally with new spiritual life in Christ in order to get to the larger political reality...

Program 526: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 11

Again, today, the only way back to an America based on "the Laws of Nature and Natureís God" is almost certainly by way of a Bible Christianity and a great spiritual awakening to it.

Also, today the really outrageous so-called 2nd Bill of Rights espoused by FDR in the 1944 State of the Union Address according to my Internet sources (for what they are worth). It is one of the most troubling things I have ever read, especially given the fact it is by a person in such a high position of power and authority, and not some fringe community organizer or college professor somewhere. The 2nd Bill of Rights is so-called positive entitlement rights, that cannot work, and they corrupt the political process, and they create an entitlement mentality, and they are highly utopian at best, though they sound good initially and they seem to have good intentions as most Liberalism does. In any case, these supposed political and economic "rights" are pretty much only "self-evident" to a spiritual or religious Liberal, to whom they seem truly good, obvious and true. This is just as the self-evident rights of the Declaration were self-evident to the American founders but not to the French humanist revolutionaries. The point is that it is only in going nutty into a Liberal spirituality or religion that one can then go nutty into a political Liberalism, which then seems brilliant to you, no less, but to no one else not caught up in the spiritual deception of Liberalism whether Protestant, Catholic or Jewish. Much of this, politically and economically is a play or variation on the old idea of "From each according to his ability to each according to his need." This, again, sounds great, of course, but it will not and cannot work, and it is definitely not a "right" or "self-evident right" of all things, and is equally utopian! Again, I personally find it extremely troubling that a President of the United States would give such a speech.

Program 525: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 10

We continue again today with walking in new life in the Spirit as seen in the ending exhortations in so many New Testament letters and here in Ephesians in terms of walking and living in the Spirit and how Christian Liberalism is similar but a counterfeit life in the Spirit with a spirit of unity, oneness, and tolerance as the supposed new Gospel and spirituality which will supposedly fix all our problems whether religious, moral, cultural, political or legal etc.

And today America and how America relates to Christianity and political theories of the just Republic and morality and even to false political ideologies. And, again, how all of this relates to oneís underlying spirituality. (At 2:41 minutes I mean former Senator not President Danforth.)

---------------------------------------------------------

Program 524: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 9

We continue again today with walking in new life in the Spirit as seen in the ending exhortations in so many New Testament letters and here in Ephesians, and how these things relate to so-called possible "demons" in our lives, whether literally or figuratively, and to false religions and possibly even to false political ideologies. A very philosophical Program, at last?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Program 523: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 8

We continue again today with walking in new life in the Spirit as seen in the ending exhortations in so many New Testament letters and here in Ephesians, and how these things relate to so-called possible "demons" in our lives, whether literally or figuratively, though in this part of Ephesians this passage is almost always seen to be about literal demons.

I use various books on demons today because this is not a subject of philosophical analysis, as such, nor one that I have special expertise in. I use Pigs in the Parlor, The Screwtape Letters and do, somewhat at length today, Nancy Leigh DeMoss's Lies Women Believe [often from a devil or demon, she says] and the Truth that Sets Them Free. Many of these lies apply to men as well as women of course, but in truth Sister Nancyís truths and ministry are geared toward women in particular. I would say, or speculate anyway, that radical feminism or so-called "sexual egalitarianism" (rather than the more traditional "complementary" view) is for Sister Nancy something of a demonic deception, but that is not exactly a theme of her book, which in fact is spiritual deception generally, our topic here today. Look, there are said to be almost 300 million people in America, and about 60 million born-again Bible Christians. The math is not complicated here? This means there are 240 million un-saved people in America facing a Christ-less eternity presumably, and one must figure about half of these people are female, or, that is, 120 million women. The fact is, however, all people (both men and women) who reject the Gospel are generally taken in by some deception, foolishness, or darkness (quite possibly demonic Jesus and Paul say), that is, the entire 240 million in America, alone, let alone the rest of the world. (So many possible lies or deceptions involve the idea that people are not "sinners" in need of "salvation"?) The seriousness and tragedy of this cannot be overstated? No one in their right mind rejects the Gospel? In any case, the "believe and receive" faith message of the Apostles for sin-and-salvation is either true or false for male or female, regardless. (Again, there a number of skips in this video. We are still having significant equipment problems, something of a bad week on these matters.)

--------------------------------------------------------

Program 520: The New Testament

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters Part 5

We continue today with walking in new life in the Spirit as seen in the ending exhortations and commandments in so many New Testament letters and here in Ephesians.

Today, what it means to say men and women are equal, but not the same. The definitive Evangelical book is generally considered to be Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood edited by Piper and Grudem, but we will probably not return to traditional Biblical concepts of gender, until we return to traditional family and Biblical concepts more generally. Men and women are a bit different, you might say, but clearly not everyone sees it that way these days.  Also, today, though some conservatives call man-made global warming (by carbon dioxide) a "hoax," I think that is not correct. That implies conscious deception.  Man-made global warming (by carbon dioxide) appears to be an (irrational) "hysteria" but not a "hoax."  This issue should be left to the scientists in my opinion, and not to the (leftist) politicians and not to those who profit from it by selling so-called "carbon credits"?  Just a thought...  I have in the past 35 years hardly seen or heard of a single scientific study showing any direct correlation between a possible warming and carbon dioxide, though the earth's climate is well known to change significantly over the centuries.

Commands and Exhortations to new life in the holy Spirit in New Testament Letters  Part 4

Today, a look at the complications surrounding growing in sanctification after we have been justified in Christ. Almost all hold this takes place over time with Godís working in our lives in our faith, but at some point who knows how it works exactly.

We continue today with walking in new life in the Spirit as seen in the ending exhortations in so many New Testament letters, and here in Galatians and Ephesians. Ephesians is my favorite, and probably the most philosophically complete and tight, though very little different than Colossians and many, if not most, other letters.

First, below Programs 504 to 515 Paul's Letter to the Romans!!!

Is Romans a great, virtually definitive, theological treatise to the Gentiles on the Apostolic faith (as Hebrews is to the Hebrews), or is it a chocolate chip cookie recipe? "Anything but what it says," says the postmodern higher critic.  But for most others (Christian and often even atheist), this is not such a tough call at all... Romans is clearly about new spiritual life in Christ with an indwelling personal holy Spirit, in terms of the Atonement, the Resurrection, Regeneration (re-birth), and the entire Christian cosmology from the Creation to "the fall" in "Adam" to a literal Final Judgment... and even an actual new heavens and new earth at the end of time... be it all true or false in a vast Apostolic conspiracy, and all in Romans 5-8 and following chapters...

Romans 5-8: In the big picture: "All things work together for good, for those who love God."

Today, I try to give a philosophical, cosmological overview of Romans 5 to 8.

Program 510: The New Testament

Romans 5-8: The Gospel, and the old man, new man, and life in the Spirit, and its problems... Part 2

Today, the sometimes controversial Romans 7 & 8...  There are numerous skips in this video, and even on a key verse that God's "Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are his children." (Romans 8:16)  Of course, one can also have a false sense of God's presence with "another Jesus" and "another Gospel" (as in Liberalism) as Paul says elsewhere, but that is not relevant here.  (At 3:57 minutes I mean to say "chapter 7 verse 1" not "chapter 1 verse 1")

Bill Bright has almost the exact same treatment of Romans 7 & 8 as Wesley and Nee, but Bright develops it in terms of the carnal Christian versus the Spirit-filled Christian. In any case, the two common errors that arise about Chapter 7 are 1.) the Christian cannot be in an "O wretched man that I am" state, and the other error is 2.) that the Christian must be in that state all the time and can never be Spirit-led or filled.  Nee, Wesley and Bright say (correctly I think) the Christian can be carnal or self-centered, but that is not the "normal Christian life," which is to be Spirit-filled and led, and such is possible, and indeed it is the point of the text, which is a possible new life in Christ. Also, in fact Greek pagan philosophy has a concept of weakness of the will in doing wrong when wanting to do right, but for the Christian the solution is not just more will power but yielding to the Spirit and counting the old man dead. Apart from will power Plato says famously and very controversially if you really "know" something (like a virtue), you do it. In essence, it is not just a head knowledge or mere desire for virtue. There is some truth to all of this philosophically, but none of it has an easily formulated or understandable answer, just as being Spirit-led or filled often isn't, which is certainly not mere will power or mere knowledge. At 27:22 minutes I mean to say "Chapter 7," not Chapter 8. (I must say I do find the doing of this Romans 8 thing to be a bit more difficult to do than the mere philosophical or theological points of it, which are fairly straightforward, I think.)

Program 503: The New Testament

The literal truth of the cosmology & the atonement & Gospelís personal salvation, new life... Part 4

Again, today, Christians are almost the only ones left these days doing rational philosophical analysis; who would have guessed just a generation ago?

And, today, one last time, there is virtually no motivation to start on the Liberal or "higher critic" path, reasonably speaking, if one does not directly or in effect throw out the God of Genesis 1:1, Who is more than capable of the supernatural, and, hence, the supernatural is not necessarily problematic in order to start doing higher criticism Liberalism. And if you cannot see this, you are totally thick as a brick. The big mistake the Bible Church made after the 18th and 19th centuries is that it bought into the old "faith versus reason" fallacy, and when it did, it sealed its own fate for having little intellectual credibility in the modern world, and the Bible faith was then reduced to experiential testimony, which is good and even necessary, I would say, but alone is insufficient to win the ultimate and final religious, philosophical, and worldview spiritual battle for planet earth. In reality, the real, true one big question was: who was really being most "reasonable" in the 20th century? The atheist, the religious Liberal (higher critic) or the Bible Christian? Not a tough call in hindsight?  (Note: At 7:48 minutes it is clearly the Law of Moses, I think, Paul is referring to, and I am not sure why I missed it here, but the point is the Law does not make you righteous but rather shows you where you are messing up, and in the text when the translators do not capitalize it, it would seem to indicate that the reference is supposedly not specifically to "the Law" of Moses as such (incorrectly), or so I read the text in this complexity.)

Program 502: The New Testament

The literal truth of the cosmology & the atonement & Gospelís personal salvation, new life... Part 3

We do today probably our most Evangelistic Program, at least since our "3 spiritual laws" Programs, and maybe even ever...

Entering into both the Old and New Covenant are as near for us as the words of our mouth, namely, a simple "I do" (more or less, basically anyway) to the Covenant offer as outlined at Sinai in The Old Testament and by the Gospel in The New Testament. In fact, both of these Covenants are by "I do," as is marriage and even joining the military with its oath to defend and protect the country and Constitution, etc. This Program could almost be called "Understanding Covenant." (This Program has a number of electronic imperfections at 42 sec and 1:22 min.)

Program 500: The New Testament

The literal truth of the cosmology & the atonement & Gospelís personal salvation, new life... Part 1

The issue for Paul is whether you accept the new spiritual life in Christ with its New Covenant offer for yourself personally. The Natural Revelation and indeed the whole Christian cosmology from the Creation to the Final Judgment are a given for Paul, proved conclusively by the Resurrection no doubt, but a given nonetheless. Therefore, Paul preaches Christ and Christ crucified, that is, the Atonement as the issue for us personally and available for everyone! And the whole thing is "a package deal" which tends to be accepted by the Bible Christian as a whole, or rejected as a package whole by the Liberal in terms of the cosmology, Atonement, Resurrection, God of Genesis 1:1, etc.

At 40:55 minutes: it is in fact probably not a good idea to deal with Liberalism in terms of "works salvation," but rather in terms of the very idea of salvation, itself, by faith or works! (Also, again, Modernism is, more or less, just another theological word for Liberalism in conservative Roman Catholicism.)
